I think, based on whats been submitted to the Database, both releases have the same Barcode.. so unless you can physically look at the disc and see the inner/outer ring numbers, there isn't a way of checking for differences?

Maybe the new back cover has a ABC logo though?

Apparently it still says B, so that's not very helpful.

Possibly one way to tell is if the case is one of the older ones with the silver Blu-ray Disc logo, assuming it hasn't been replaced.

Note that Umbrella Entertainment previously released "The Beastmaster" on Blu-ray in 2013 as a region B locked Blu-ray with the same video/audio and extras. The only difference is the new 2018 release is region ALL. The artwork on the front and back are identical. The only difference is the barcode number.

2013 barcode: 9344256008993

2018 barcode: 9344256017568

Please, more feedback on this.

It looks like a standard definition insert of a freeze frame shot, perhaps
[Show spoiler]to hide the fact the dog is breathing when he is supposed to be dead.
Don't know why they needed to source an SD shot, but it definitely looks highly processed and you can see jagged edges on the image.

Those weird artefacts at the start are caused by them splicing in some footage that was shot in 2.35:1 at the beginning of the shoot, before they switched to spherical.

I don't think he was talking about that part. It's one shot directly after the dog drags Dar away and they are both lying on the ground unconscious. The squeezed 2.35:1 footage was earlier in the film when Dar was a boy.

That's so crazy!
Why using that on SD?

Can anyone confirm this is also region free? I found and ebay listing that says it is, but want to make sure. Now that the US edition is all but gone, this seems the most readily available/affordable edition, plus there's other movies I'd order from amazon.de

Just ordered the last copy from Diabolik. Been waiting for Amazon to get this again so I could use a gift card but don’t want this to disappear without grabbing it.

The German Blu-ray which I've just watched has the same issue, the first shot of the unconscious Dar the next morning, is all blocky like a grid pattern. So something inherent in the master, and not a compression issue.

This seems to have disappeared already. Hopefully more copies of the region free come back in stock somewhere.

Grrrr, I completely missed this. Beastmaster has been on my most wanted list for a blu-ray for years.

Really hope it comes back or that there is FINALLY a US release.

I am seeing an Uncut Region Free German version on Ebay. Is that still worth getting?

The German Blu-ray is fine, it's the same master as the Australian disc. You miss out on the extras however.
