I also recommend My Bloody Valentine - it is one of my favorite 80's slashers.

jdw89. I highly recommend the My Bloody Valentine Blu ray also. It look's great and has an awesome slasher doco on the special features.
Right they are, was thinking of the entire series.
I have My Bloody Valentine also and it does look great and I appreciate that the characters are not a bunch of annoying teenagers.

Do people consider Blow Out part of this sub-genre?

I could see that going either way.

I don't. But I don't think The Fog or Halloween 3 are either. So it's a crapshoot.

Well in The Fog the ghosts do use swords.
Would that count.

Some of them are subjective. The Fog, at least in my view, is as much a slasher as Prison, Chucky, or even A Nightmare on Elm Street. They all share a common thread with slashers, they all have a body count, exploiation-style kills, a final "girl", etc. They are also all very supernatural. But still very much slasher-eqsue.

Again, that's my opinion. But I think if the list ruled out everything not 100% slasher it would be very small. Also, there's a note at the bottom saying that the list is really just ones that could, generally, be called Slashers.

I might pick up My Bloody Valentine but $17 seems a bit high and according to the price tracker it was $6 at one point.

There are a couple of third party sellers on Amazon offering it new for $8.99, plus shipping.

The current prices aren't likely to come back down to $6.00 anytime soon. The Blu-Ray has been OOP for nearly a year and a half, presumably because Lionsgate's license with Paramount has expired.

I own the Canadian version of The Monster Squad blu-ray that Lionsgate put out, which featured the same transfer and special features as the American edition; even the Lionsgate studio logo appeared before the main menu. If the label reads Maple Studios (the company that released the Lionsgate Monster Squad disc in Canada), then it should be identical to Lionsgate's version.

However, I would double check this before you commit to buying.

Really thinking about picking up X-Ray and Schizoid as well as I don't recall really caring about getting those before but now they look appealing.

The only difference is Maple logos. I own the Canadian disc and can say as fact, the Disc ID is the same (confirmed via dvdprofiler). There's a used copy at Encore records in Ann Arbor for $7 out the door right now (US version), if anyone's near there and wants/needs it.
