But I guess I can stand for this to drop. I think it seems like one of those titles that will be $7.99 or under soon enough. |

Yeah, probably will. It's kinda weird, this was on television last night... and it's never on television where I'm from.

I heard that both Winona Ryder and Jodie Foster were considered for the role of Alice before Julia Roberts came on board. I can definitely see both of them fitting the character well. I think Ryder dropped out because of her dislike of Gibson.

FYI
I bought this for 8.99 from Family Video and received it last Saturday (took about 3 days from when I ordered it). It was the cheapest at the time when I ordered it-not sure if that is still the case. The other movies I ordered were also cheaper there (1.99 shipping now matter what you order so I like to order as much as possible): (1) Sleepaway Camp Collector's Edition Blu-ray/DVD (826663148213) = $17.99 (1) Conspiracy Theory Blu-ray Disc (883929375110) = $8.99 (1) Ghostbusters Includes Digital Copy; UltraViolet Blu-ray Disc (043396426153) = $8.99 (1) Chances Are Blu-ray Disc (014381962352) = $10.99 |

Nope, she's Jewish, and she later (and famously) revealed what she claims he said to her. I won't repeat it and derail the thread about a really good movie with one of Gibson's best performances, but it's easy enough to Google, just search their names together.

I got this on import from Amazon in the UK and watched it last night.
As everyone has already said the sound and picture are really good. Quite a few gunshots from the rear speakers and good solid blacks for the night scenes. Some great helicopter shots of New York as well. I had only seen the film once before and that must have been around 15 years ago on home video so I quickly remembered why I hadn't bought it on DVD. The whole premise is good but really it's middle tier Donner and middle tier Gibson and left me a little underwhelmed. Julia Roberts looks beautiful in high-def though. ![]() |

I haven't seen this in many years and I found it sillier than what I remember. It was a good 2 hours of entertainment, but the plot holes and believability factors were just a bit too much at times. |

I keep forgetting to come back and post - watched it the day after it came and I just loved it. Was so fun to revisit and it had been so long (since the turn of the century) since I'd seen it.
This really was the last gasp of true old-school Hollywood movie-star-team-up vehicles. They try today (Knight and Day) but now when they rely on CGI and more high-concepts than simply the joy of seeing two movie stars at the top of their game having an adventure. Just the music, style, and actually having scenes who's only point is character development/enrichment is just something I miss. I have to say I was especially wow'd by the sound. It's the first big 90's movie I have watched since I upgraded my sound system, and wow - it was so nice to finally hear some really active, aggressive, surround. I know the trend is now all about being "discrete" but man there is also something to be said for balls-out, let-loose crank it all up just be blown away. What a great film, and a great Blu-ray release. It's not GWTW, or Citizen Kane, but man - it is an enjoyable popcorn movie, and two hours with two great movie stars*. *Note on that one - as much as Gibson makes me vomit these days, but somehow I was able to put myself back in that 90's mode where Gibson was actually cool and charming. I was really relieved it didn't distract me totally away from it all. |
