DVD Only Under the Skin will be sitting next to the piles of Gigli and Dodgeball Unrated if they don't turn this thing around! Crazy times we are living when companies would rather release a movie like that on a defunct format.
Hell might as well release it on VHS now. |

Under The Skin just opened locally this past weekend. As far as I can tell...I don't notice any US release dates also for the blu rays of the other major films that also opened the same day here as Under The Skin. I say relax people...there WILL be a blu ray...how can there not be ![]() |

It's not like people are upset because there is no release date yet. There is a date...and it's for a DVD only. |

Under the Skin is my favorite film of 2014 so far, and I'll be surprised if it is not still my favorite film by year's end, or at least in my top five of the year.
The idea of a DVD-only Region A physical media release for Under the Skin is troublesome, because this film begs to be viewed in the best quality format available. If a DVD is my only option, though, then I'll buy the DVD. Under the Skin is that good. I'm withholding judgment until I read a definitive news statement, but this is odd. That they would release only a DVD but not a corresponding blu ray? I'd really be surprised if it had ![]() |

eOne has already got very lazy when it comes to Blu-Ray and started doing this exact thing last fall. In fact one of the A24 films from last year didn't get a BR here (The Spectacular Now). In addition, eOne also didn't release the Blu-Rays of Fruitvale Station, The To Do List and 20 Feet from Stardom. There are probably more they skipped out on but those are the ones I know for sure as I had to look at importing from elsewhere. Last edited by Corey31; 04-23-2014 at 01:28 PM. |

True but some of those films are 'bigger' films and they still havent had a release. But on the other hand we are getting all kinds of smaller film releases that the US hasnt had - most of Lynch's stuff for a start!

The proof is in the pudding so to speak though. You have several different media outlets saying that it will be released in the USA on DVD only. You have Amazon and several other retailers with the pre-order for the DVD only. You have VideoETA.com saying it will be released in the USA on DVD only. How many more entities do you need to say the same thing before you start to see the writing on the wall? Since you wanna ask questions about new releases, how about this one... When was the last time an announcement was made about a DVD "new" release without a Blu-ray announcement also? |

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Under...lu-ray/101698/ I mean it just wouldn't make any sense NOT release a blu ray at this point in time. I don't think blu ray sales overall are in decline and people are switching to digital media like what happened when music stores like Tower Records went out of business when the iPods came along. I just don't see that trend happening to movies just yet. Its not like Under the Skin is doing blockbuster business right now and to ignore a segment of the market just doesn't make any business sense to me. |

That's fine with me, I'll still buy that over a DVD. This is a flat-out stupid move in the US. I could see not releasing DVD OR Blu-ray and sticking to putting it on streaming services but DVD only seems really dumb, especially with a movie as beautifully filmed as Under the Skin. I guess the numbers must suggest physical media is being phased out and many people are just going from DVD straight to accepting whatever's available on netflix and TV only.

Highly false. If anything, Blu-ray ownership has grown each and every year while DVD sales have progressed downwards. This cannot be disputed. The statistics are there. The growth of BD could have been better, but with the downturn of the economy, I think that it's adoption has been hampered a bit. |

Wow, I honestly had no idea. I would have thought it to be steady declining with the increase of high definition formats.
Let's hope it's true. Thanks for sharing! ![]() |
