This isn't looking good guys and this bad news for Blu supporters out there. A24Films is an awesome up and coming studio that isn't showing that awesome support for their fans and their films on home video.
http://havingsaidthat.net/a24-leadin...oning-blu-ray/ ***Update*** Maybe there is hope? https://twitter.com/A24Films/status/458971642635763712 ***More Update*** https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=13826 They say it's official, but still no pre-orders. Sounds like they are just going off the tweets. ***Still No Pre-Order Update*** Title says it all. Both titles announced: https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=13826 https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=13884 Last edited by Blu Titan; 05-04-2014 at 01:08 AM. Reason: Both titles announced |

I wonder what the source for this is. I'm not familiar with that website. If it's true, that's hideous news. Of all films, gorgeous art films need BD the most. A shame that the latest mindless studio comedies will be on BD and the stunning Under the Skin might not be. I hope this is incorrect.

It's true. People from CriterionForum.org have been b-itching about it and e-mailing A24 about it since the day they found out maybe a week or so ago. Very disappointing. "Enemy" is also getting a very sub-par release as well, I don't remember the specifics, if it's a simply barebones disc, if it's coming on DVD only or what, but over there at that forum they are also incredibly disappointed with how "Enemy" is being released in R1, many of them say they are importing from elsewhere.
My only guess or hope is that Criterion already has exclusive blu-ray only rights to "Under The Skin"? It's possible, but who knows, either way it's all around very disappointing. |

I guess we'll have to import now.
If I recall correctly, A24 doesn't distribute the films in Canada, so that's always an option for us. Here's a link for Enemy. http://www.amazon.ca/Enemy-Blu-ray-B...nis+villeneuve |

Doesn't bother me, I'll just give my money to Amazon UK for my blu-ray copy of Under The Skin in July.

The only way DVD is being kept alive is because there are still important titles (to me anyways) not released on blu-ray yet. Just looking over at my shelf I see "Fire In The Sky", "Less Than Zero", "Summer School", "Phantasm", "Slither" (which would make a great "Scream Factory" title by the way), "Fletch Lives", "Candyman", "Cemetery Man", "Lost Highway" and some others, but you get the idea.
This is really a cluster "blank" on A24's half. I guess if it doesn't do "Spring Breakers" or "The Bling Ring" type numbers at the box office or whatever they just check out and could care less? I would hope that's not the case, but we can only assume until A24 explains this reasoning. |

Well then I urge each and everyone of you to e-mail A24 expressing your disappointment and concerns. Like I said, this is very, very odd and bizarre. My only wish or hope would be that somehow Criterion got exclusive rights to release a blu-ray package.
Here is their e-mail to inquire about this bizarre treatment to two very anticipated films that we were expecting blu-ray releases of. info@a24films.com Last edited by thompsonjohn; 04-23-2014 at 02:51 AM. |

This is such horrible news. I missed Enemy in theaters and am anxiously awaiting seeing Under the Skin this weekend, both of which I wanted to own on BD. I was a real fan of how A24 was releasing very unique stories and was looking forward to other ones coming out this year. Now I'm enraged.

I just sent them an e-mail. Hopefully if enough of us send them a note it can inspire them to not drop releasing Blu-ray's of their films in North America. I'm sure a lot of people are interested in seeing these films on Blu-ray. I would think they would have a good audience of viewers who want to view the films on this format much more so than on DVD.
If they decide to only support DVD releases then import Blu-ray's will have to be the option instead of even considering their DVD only editions when many of these titles may still receive international releases... but North America Region A Blu-ray's is something that I hope continues to happen here. |
