NO. Miller & Actors involved confirmed it is a "reimagining", a parallel dimension. The Interceptor went destroyed in MM2 in the "original world".

Looks like it gets destroyed again in the beginning of this one.
Which is a shame. Talk about one of the most badass cars, EVER, on film.

I'm super-psyched for Fury Road after watching that trailer. Charlize Theron looks badass.

Then how come he has the V8 Interceptor in the trailer? Unless it's a different V8 Interceptor? The original got blown up in The Road Warrior (Mad Max 2).

Never mind. I see from other posts that it's not the same timeline.

I'm still convinced this is clever deception on their part. I still believe it'll be a "reimagining" insofar as it won't make direct references to the original trilogy, but can still fit in with them. The movie was called Mad Max 4, and the sequel is currently using the name Mad Max 5: Furiosa.

In Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Max is aprox. 44 years old.
Plus, in the original trilogy world, there are no "mutants".

I honestly prefer the first Mad Max film to the second.

It's a better film film, yeah, whereas MM2 is balls-to-the-wall action pretty much all the way. I like 'em all, even Thunderdome.

Amico, we're lucky we got a new encode with the re-release of MM2 and look how long it took for them to release Thunderdome on Blu-ray AT ALL. You've gotta quit it with this constant 'new transfer' spamming because it's not gonna happen.

Miller's just not that picky about the sequels lining up with one another. It's the same character, it's not another dimension, it's just a sequel. It doesn't have to fit together, because it's fiction.

That said, I do find it funny: I have had different people tell me it takes place between Mad Max and The Road Warrior, between The Road Warrior and Thunderdome, and after Thunderdome. I just need someone to tell me it's a prequel and all the bases are covered.

"They say people don't believe in heroes anymore. Well, damn them! You and me, Max, we're gonna give 'em back their heroes!"

Love dat movie. At times it's got this odd, fever-dream quality to it which sets it apart from the hard-edged grittiness of the others.

The biggest gap is placed inbetween MM2 and Thunderdome. 14 years.

I'm up for a Scream Factory Blu-ray of the first film. It's my favorite of the three, even after all these years.

The trailer for the new film looks too sleek. The desert film location is real, of course, but the ultra-digital look just does not match the grittiness of the old movies. There are a couple of scenes in the new trailer where I have trouble buying the notion that the characters are really outdoors.

Now that I think more on it I think I will buy this again if it comes with a slipcover and is $15 or less. I can save a few bucks by selling the original release.

Since you're specifically referring to Miller and how he views the Mad Max series and Fury Road - he specifically stated this film is a reboot - not a sequel - and since Gibson is not in it most people will also see it that way.

It was only a sequel when it was intended to be filmed over a decade ago with Gibson as a much older version of Max. As more time passed and the story developed into 3 potential stories for sequels, he changed his mind - it's a reboot.

I dont think you can call it a true reboot since the trailer says, "after the gas wars came the water wars." regardless im super psyched for this. Next to Star Wars and the Terminator, the road warrior was one of my faves as a child of the 80s.
