Yeah, they just got hammered. Ouch.

ETA: To put it in perspective, they pulled in just barely over what American Sniper did by itself -- and AS came out on X-Mas!

SpongeyBobby made more than the other 4 movies in the top 5 combined. That's impressive. It took a sponge to knock off a movie about a lying murderer

Box Office guru was wrong about Sniper

Quote:
American Sniper rocketed to sky high buzz which got ticket sales moving, but has quickly seen that chatter disappear and is now falling rapidly back to Earth. A strong sophomore hold of 28% was followed by a steep 53% tumble on the third frame. Even factoring in the Super Bowl, that was a large nosedive. This weekend should see another potent drop especially since two new action entries are entering the field. A 45% slide may result giving Warner Bros. about $16M for the weekend and $274M to date.

Yeah, I read that a while back and it seemed weird. -53% on a Superbowl weekend is pretty damn good. Plenty of popular films drop that low or lower.

So I see Jupiter Ascending bombed overseas as well, it'll struggle to him $200M worldwide.

Doesn't say it bombed overseas at Box Office Mojo. Said it did solid business.

Coinciding with its domestic debut, Jupiter Ascending opened in 65 international markets and earned a solid $32.5 million.

The movie's biggest market was Russia, where it took first place with $4.7 million. It also took the top spot in a handful of smaller Asian markets.

Otherwise, though, Jupiter's debuts were unremarkable: it opened to $2.5 million in France, $2.1 million in South Korea, and $2 million in the U.K., and wound up between $1 and $2 million in Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Italy and Spain.

The big-budget sci-fi flick expands in to Australia in two weeks, and then reaches China and Japan in March.
