Bargain hunting is how I built a good portion of my collection (and so quickly), I have no problems buying used media for heavily reduced prices provided that the case (and usually slipcover) are in excellent shape.

However there are a few must haves in my collection (new non-limited, no special packaging) that I will buy on day 1. These titles make up perhaps 20-30 total titles, out of nearly 400 I have been purchasing every single year.

So maybe 5%.... I'm frugal... but some movies I want... price be hanged.

I always buy the 3-D movie releases on day 1. No matter what the cost. Main reason being, we have to show the distributors that we in America are interested in 3-D releases. We have already lost Disney 3-D here. We do not need to loose the other company's too, so we will be forced to import them in 3-D as well. And the more we import from other country's, the more Disney will think they made the right decision. The reason why Disney 3-D is selling well over in the other country's is because of all the people in the U.S.A are forced (if they want a Disney 3-D) to import them back to the states. If Disney were to gather info on the exports of the 3-D vids to the states they would see that there is a desire for them here. But they don't run those numbers.

Not only do I purchase Day 1 but the majority of my purchases are also blind buys. I'm from Australia so quite often the movies come out in the US earlier than here though that gap is no where near what it used to be. I also don't ever go to the cinema anymore so I factor that into the cost. I also used to collect Laserdisc's so as anyone who used to buy those could tell you, $20 for a new Blu is a bargain to us old timers who would regularly shell out a ton for LD's and even more for Box Sets and Special Editions.

So no it doesn't phase me at all when prices drop after a few months. I personally would rather the movie as soon as it comes out than spend time and energy searching for a bargain.

The only thing that bother's me is when I get a dud Blind buy... But after so many years, I know what movies I'm likely to like and it's rare that I choose poorly.

I think a big part is weather people still go to the cinema's or not. If they do they have more of a cost right there and are probably more like to wait and try find a deal. Us people who don't go to the cinema anymore don't have that cost.

Not true at all.

Week one prices are often cheaper than the prices during the following weeks. It often takes months for prices to drop to week one levels (or below that).

If slipcovers mean that much to you, then by all means that's your thing.
Pretty much THIS.

Last year alone I bought EoT, TF4, Gozilla, Frozen, The Lego Movie, etc. at a fraction of their original prices and with slipcovers. Of course, it's not always like this, but Walter Mitty, and Boxtrolls are good examples of great sales, and they still came with their slipcovers. DotPotA is another good example. Disney movies on the other hand almost have to be bought during release week, otherwise you are pretty much screwed. That also goes for a couple of other companies. Criterion has great sales, so there is no rush.
Ultra limited editions and such are another good cause for speedy decisions.
Usually, there is no hurry though.

Neither do I, yet I can wait for a better price. I do applaud you however, as you keep the demand high. I can't afford that right now, so I have to wait for sales. I still pay tons of money though. Just the shipping costs alone are a fortune.

Yup, you mean, people actually WATCH the movies? Wow, I just want the slip covers.

Wife: "Hey, did you hear they are making another Spider-Man movie?"
Me: "REALLY? Oh, I can't WAIT to get THAT slip cover, that will look real good on my shelf next to all my other slip covers."

LMAO.

That's how it seems on this forum, the packaging is more important to having the actual movie/series.

I mean i like to have decent packaging as well but the actual movie/series is kind of important as in like it's EVERYTHING... without it you have a box.

Maybe I want to watch a given film in the best possible PQ and AQ and I also want the slipcover? That seems to be a hard concept for some people here.

Oh, I AGREE with you, my post was actually in your defense.

That wasn't really aimed at you. I was just saying that because your post reminded me how much absurdity there has been in this thread. I actually laugh out loud at the posts where people say they throw slipcovers away when I have made probably a few hundred dollars off of them.

So you're the one keeping 3D artifically alive.
