I have to say I did like the 3D but the film was just awful. Maybe I had to be a fan of the show. There were some good ideas in the film but for me it just did not work. But the 3D was great.

A first impression probability and a good heads-up for movie buffs.
For the 3D connoisseur, The SpongeBob, Movie is the only Blu-ray 3D example to my-knowledge (to-date) of the traditional-drawn-cel-animation style (example below), in strong native-3D for each character having illusions of mass, volume and space placement. This would not be possible without computer generated imagery advancements.

Funny I hated it the first time I watched it, but the second time I laughed the whole way through it. I think once you get used to the utter stupidity of it all it becomes less annoying lol

I'd say it's a must for fans of Futurama or fans of something like Arrested Development. The jokes are so quick and fast they can fly by if you're not quick enough to pick up on them. I was genuinely impressed with the style of comedy in this, having never watched Spongebob before. The 3D and visual presentation in general though was out of this world.

I got into Spongebob when Screen Novelties did a half hour Stop-motion Xmas special, which is brilliant and hilarious.

I'd meant to see the 3D movie by now but I've fallen behind. I was going to pick it up in HMV but left it after seeing the 3D version had inferior cover art and no slip case compared to the regular version.

I can imagine. Anyone know if the US version is region-free?

Peabody and Sherman really is a lot like Meet the Robinsons. It's probably the better of the two.

Woah so you it's something you really like and really wanted to see and the only reason you DIDN'T buy it is because of the cover art and no slip???

That makes zero sense.

I only postponed buying it. The regular edition just looked so much better visually. I kinda resent paying extra for something in uglier packaging. I'll pick it up at some point.

I'm not the worst person around here when it comes to stuff like slipcases and steelbooks, but somehow over the years I have developed an appreciation for nice things!

I think it may be a Paramount thing. They never have slips for their 3D releases, or at least none that i can recall.

I am reliably informed that it is region free, all Paramount 3D releases generally are (Hercules being the major exception).

Two years later and it is 9.99 US now so I ordered it. I always liked the TV show, it was the only cartoon that seemed reminiscent of the ones I watched as a child (70's). I've never been a fan of the newer faux-3d cartoons.

I recently found out something I didn't know about this movie.

There's different versions of it.

That is, the U.K. version has the pigeons voiced by different actors than the U.S. edition.

Even though they are both in English.

So if someone in the U.S. imported the U.K. version, even if it is or was region free (don't know if it is or not), they didn't get the version seen in U.S. theatres.

and vice versa.

I checked my copy and mine seems to be the proper U.S. version.

Lol those are seagulls.
I was amazed while watching this how much it looked just like an animated view-master reel.

Sponge Bob had a lenticular slip. The current Transformers came with a slip. TMNT, TERMINATOR GENISYS, STAR TREK BEYOND had slips as well

I just pulled this out to re-watch tonight. I hated it the first time. Curious to see if I change my mind the second time.

Not in the UK it didn't. The 2D version had a slip but the 3D version came without one.

I didn't like it when I saw it recently. It was my first time seeing it. The 3D was good, the movie was so boring though.

I agree, the 3d was great but still a struggle for me to get through the movie. On the other hand the kids love it and watching it in 3d.

I was older and not watching much TV, let alone cartoons, when SpongeBob came out. So, while I was aware of the character I had never seen a single episode. I've recently been buying up 3D blu rays to watch on my Panasonic VT60 and came across this so decided to buy it, not really expecting much. All I can say is WOW!. This cartoon is charming and hilarious. I can see why it became so popular. I feel like I missed out big time. The movie is fantastic. The 3D is some of the best I've yet to see. The CGI and animation is done superbly. I was kinda blown away tbh. I highly recommend this for anyone on the fence.
