Add me to the list of people that would love to see Mark Hamill do the voice work, especially if he's on record saying that this is his favorite Joker story and that he would love to do it.
While I don't look at any one version of the character as definitive (and love plenty of the different interpretations of them), Hamill's voice is usually the first thing that comes to mind for me when I think of The Joker. |

I'm still (impatiently) waiting for an animated adaptation of The Long Halloween.
Come on, WB. More on topic, they have to get Mark Hamill for The Killing Joke. If Hamill isn't the Joker, this movie will be a lesser version than what it could be. |

I'm crossing my fingers for Hamill, but at the same time I think they'll do just fine if they don't get him. |

I know nobody will agree with me on this, but I actually hope they DON'T bring back Hamill and Conroy for this. The subject matter is totally wrong for their voices, and it would just feel kind of creepy- having the definitive voices from our childhood version of Batman reprised in such an overly dark story. I don't want to think of it in any way connected with the DCAU, I want to consider it as it's own out-of-continuity kind of one-off the the way the book should have been. You need to completely divorce it from the animated series for it to work or it would feel "off", like anti-nostalgia if that makes sense. I think they should totally go with outside the box choices, like when they were rumored to be doing this about five years ago they approached Ed Harris for Batman, which is totally a good fit for the grim story precisely because he never has been Batman and is a serious dramatic actor. The desperate, nihilistic quality of his voice would fit it well, in that Kevin Conroy would just remind you of HIS Batman and take you out of the world the decidedly mature story presents.

Hamill said he's always wanted to do TKJ, many fans want him... seems like a no-brainer. |

Whereas in this, TKJ takes place in nothing remotely resembling the world of the animated series, yet it's an animated film so having Hamill and Conroy would just feel extremely "wrong" to me, like perverting the purity of the animated series. I don't think the Arkham games ever went too far, and again were a totally different visual representation. It's just my opinion, but it feels akin to doing an X-rated sequel to a Disney classic or whatever but retaining the same voice actors, making it neither fish nor fowl. There's a reason they went with Peter Weller and not Conroy for DKR, him reminding you of BTAS would be totally out of place for that completely unrelated seminal '80s work. It would not be able to stand on it's own because the story itself is so far removed from any innocence the cartoon represents in our hearts, but with them doing the voices you can't help but think of that and I don't think that is the juxtaposition they want. Just IMO of course. |

Or because Batman's an old man in that film so Conroy's voice wouldn't have fit, I don't think when reading TDKR people would tend to imagine Conroy personally, I sure didn't.

My problem with Troy Baker though is that he's basically just channeling Hamill, it's not personal, it's just a very good imitation. Hamill made The Joker his own thing, and I think that's the key going forward after Hamill has left the role forever - give The Joker a personality of your own, don't just mimic what came before.
Say what you will about John DiMaggio in Under the Red Hood, but at least he did something unique with the character. |

The Arkham games had murder, people getting tortured, blown up, and shot, and adult language... Conroy and Hamill have already covered the kind of material that would be in an adaptation of The Killing Joke. Those games, especially Arkham Knight which is "M," are on the same level as an adaptation of this story would be. These are the same games that had Batman engaging in conversation with Catwoman who was making sexual innuendos or Joker making some crude sexual references.
And in Arkham Knight, [Show spoiler] So they've already covered more "adult" topics. An animated film adaptation wouldn't be anything worse than what we've seen in those games.
