UPS are the worst *****s, for nailing you with brokerage fees. I hate using them and try to get all my shipments done with USPS.

It is the same whether it is UPS or Fed Ex. Bottom line is to use the USPS (cheapest) and most of the time, it will arrive without any tax / brokerage fee. For me, I use a US mailbox service because I am so close to the border. (On occasion, it pays to ship direct.)

J & R has another sale now, but I did not order because they are shipping USPS now. This means the $5 Customs Handling fee, which makes me want to stick to Amazon.
This maybe because the Taxes when using UPS is COD if you do not have an account. There is a fee attached. ($4 IIRC)

I'll second that. I hate UPS with a passion. I was once charged about $19.50 in taxes/duty/fees on an item that only cost me $21

Every retailer I deal with in the US that uses UPS, I point out the rip-off they pull on Canadians. I simply refuse to make a purchase if they insist on using UPS.

Some dealers even have learned the of the issue, and specifically recommend USPS to Canadian customers.

The USPS/Canada Post teamwork seems to be excellent, and things just breeze through customs. And if you do get charged, it's almost always only taxes + a $5 processing fee. Very reasonable.

Did you know if you live in Canada, buying DVD or Blu-Ray disks from Amazon.com, the disks get shipped from Amazon in Canada?! We ordered 6 movies in two separate orders, 2 orders of 3. Order #1 arrived one week after I submitted it (today), and that included the Holiday Easter weekend. Movies we received were Independence Day, 28 Weeks Later (poor PQ), and From Hell and they arrived in a week with a Canada Post sticker on it, and was called Quick Ship. No taxes or cross border delays! For the tip, please place your next Media purchase from www.partywithlite.com/theater.html

Amazon.com does not ship from Canada, there is just a handoff between the US shipper and purolator.

I just noticed that I mistakenly chose "Expedited International Shipping" on my order being shipped out today (already in "shipping soon" state). I have done many orders from amazon.com to Canada and have never once been charged any fees on my end for the delivery. Does anyone know for sure the difference between "Standard" and "Expedited"?

I know that if I would have chosen "Priority International Courier" then it would have showed up in a day or two by courier but that I would be on the hook for customs/duty/taxes but it isn't clear to me the difference between "Standard" and "Expedited". It seems to be only 2 dollars more per order for "Expeditied" and it says 4 to 6 days vs 7 to 11 days. Does "Expedited" still take the same route to me? (i.e. internally to Missisauga and then Canada Post Expedited or Express Post to me)? I really don't want to have to pay more.

Also try jr.com and deepdiscountdvd.com Their shipping is cheaper and the delivery time is the same 7 business days max
deepdiscountdvd.com this place is also on ebay if you want to avoid some hassel

Actually if they have it in stock in a Canadian warehouse they will ship it to you from Canada to save money.

Save money for themselves, not you of course.

Actually, there is a way to tell the difference between a Canadian and American edition of Blu-ray movies. I have ordered many movies from Amazon and not a single one came in with a bilingual cover. In Canada, all of them are bilingual.

Just went and looked through all my Blus, only a few had a bilingual back cover. Kind of weird considering Ive ordered maybe 6 from Amazon.com, the rest are from my hometown Futureshop and Wal-Mart.

Hmm, did you check the spine? Often, they are bilingual.

Covers are usually bilingual, but it's not uncommon to issue separate English and French editions as well.

Then why does it arrive in less than a week (it is actually about a week)and have a Canada post shipping label laid over top saying for return address refer to address label? No US post stamps at all. Nothing to indicate it was ever in the usa, and special lablel is called "quick ship".
The order of 3 with the item that was "back ordered" on .ca but not in the usa took about 2-2.5 weeks. The order of 3, where all items were in stock on both sides of the border took 6-7 days including the weekend (Easter long weekend included), that is not a shipment from US, it never arrives that quick from USA. I have almost 1300 feeback on eBay from buying and selling and I can attest to that fact.

(Don't read any tone into this, just stating the facts surrounding my shipments)

There is a sort of loophole to their methods of shipping from Amazon.com to Canadian residences. I've noticed on a few of my parcels (while I lived in Ontario) that the shipping label from the U.S. was simply covered up with a Canadian equivalent. I believe that Amazon.com actually does ship all Canadian orders from the U.S., but to their Canadian distribution centre. This, in turn, gets redirected to the customer. This allows the company to treat the shipment as a transfer of inventory, thus bypassing any border taxing. This essentially would save them duty taxes. As a fringe benefit, this also saves the customer the possiblity of duty taxes as well.

However, now that I live in Vancouver, my orders seem to ship from a much closer location directly from the U.S. Still haven't seen any duty yet though.

Anyone see any really good Canadian deals on PS3's? I'm looking to get a 2nd one (likely a 40GB model) for my 2nd HDTV and really want to get something similar to the Walmart deal where there was a $100 GC but of course that deal wasn't valid up here.
