I look through the deals forum and rarely, if ever, see a decent deal, in Canada. Our dollar is above par with the greenback and has hovered within a cent or two, for over 6 months, and Canadian retailers, in general, have done nothing. I remember the lip service, last Novermber, about having in stock items work through the system, before we see the same prices as in the United States. Still nothing. If anything, they've figured out how to get their retail prices back up to previous levels, after being beaten down by consumer rage. Nice to see that books, magazines and greeting cards are now showing a single price, but of course not the same price, as the same item in the United States. Blu Ray and HD DVD movies have been stuck at the suggested retail price, since New Years day, with no discounts. Two for $50.00, on catalogue titles is a ripoff and should be ignored. Canadians have such a short attention span and the silence is deafening. I'm going stateside, this weekend, and use those coupons for Dan In Real Life and No Country For Old Men. While I'm there, I'll stop at my PO Box and pick up my Amazon order, since it was shipped free, to that location, in one business day. Screw the Canadian retailers, who don't deserve my patronage!

Futureshops' & Best Buy Canada's prices are such a joke compared to Amazon.com or ebay. Even when shipping is factored in I still save a ton.
If you've got patience enough to hold off buying a new release for a few weeks you can really get some awesome deals through ebay. It's not often now that I'll pay more than 20 bucks for a Blu ray & I'm talking brand new & sealed, shipping included. You just have to have patience. Of my 84 Blu's I think I've only bought about 6 from retail stores and that will continue until Canadian retail stores smarten up & lower their insane prices. ![]() Last edited by Razzy; 03-10-2008 at 07:10 PM. |

I don't call them deals - but the closest things.
Best Buy & Future Shop - on the day of release (usually Tuesdays) = almost decent price (next day up again) HMV can have the best deals (you know the product is overpiced if you depend on deals from HMV) on their 2 for $50 (half decent selection). They switch them around & at times will have Fox, Disney & Sony discs as part of it). Future Shop has the odd 2 for $50 disks but they end up being a dollar or two below list price. Here in the GTA they (Future Shop) has seemed to go up in prices. I was going to pick up some regular priced discs that I saw as going for $19.99 (Blazing Saddles & Corpse Bride) & now there up to close to $30! (same thing seemed to have happened at Best Buy for these discs). |

Hey, don't slag off Anne Murray, she is smoking hot. As for the prices at BB and Fshop, they have almost nothing below 25 bucks anymore. There used to be a bunch of movies around 20 and now they've jacked them up. The same thing with Wal-Mart. Buy off the internet and let them lie in the bed they've made.

This is what good old socialist idea's have got us, here in Canada. Future Shops owns Best Buy and they compete against themselves. We have a monolith, in Walmart, that has little competition. Zellers, the second biggest retail chain, a cheap knockoff of Target, never has sales on HD Media, so who do you go to? We have an HMV and my city still has one of the last few Sam The Record Man, but their prices are out there. Why would anyone in their right mind, buy an HD DVD or Blu Ray for $49.99? We have the rental places like Blockbuster and Rogers, but still over the top prices. Pawn Shops sometimes get the odd title, but are still more money than Amazon.com. I have no answer, with the exception of Amazon and cross border shopping. I tell everyone at Future Shops and Best Buy, how the Amazon thing works. Hopefully, I can educate some of the clones, that indiscriminately over spend on HDM, and makes these over priced places think that they can get away with gouging, as they will.

They don't take pre-orders yet, but maybe they will someday. But their prices are unbeatable by ANY retailers in Canada. In fact, several new releases are sold for $19.99. No wonder why they go out of stock so fast once they're out. They get stocked a couple times per week. Not only to mention the $7.99 flat rate for shipping as many as you want to. If SigElectronics.com continue to expand, chances are they will improve the Blu-ray section. |
