Sinister (2012) - I find this to be one of the best horror movies of the decade. It’s a film that successfully uses suspense and tension over gore, which seems to be a lost art. The performances are well done, there are some cool twists, Mr. Boogie is frightening, and the use of super 8 film is fantastic. What truly makes this film so atmospherically haunting is the tremendous score/sound design, which gives me goose bumps every time I watch it.

Sinister 2* (2015) - While this was not as good as the first installment, it also doesn’t deserve the abundance of hate it’s received. The film is very flawed, most notably in making the comedic side character from the last film the lead, as well as making the ghost children less scary and more relatable. However, the stuff that did well really worked for me, like the twist between the two brothers and the super 8 movies. I had hoped that this one was going to make Buguul more of a threat, but all in all, I found it to be an enjoyable flick.

The Haunted World of El Superbeasto (2009) - This is such a zany and over the top movie, but I always have a good time watching it. Of course, it’s much more enjoyable when you can pick up on the abundance of horror references. It does drag a bit during the middle, but the end makes up for it. Granted, I think this movie could’ve been a lot funnier and stronger, but for what it is, I like it.

Mountain of the Cannibal God* (1979) - I pretty much got what I expected with this one: tits and gore, and that was enough for me. The acting may be subpar, but it delivered on the exploitative goods and was quite disturbing, although not as horrific as Cannibal Holocaust.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre II (1986) - While this sequel is a far cry from its groundbreaking predecessor, it manages to deliver enough campy entertainment to make it an enjoyable viewing. The first half of the film suffers from pacing issues, but the over-the-top mania keeps interest held until the conclusion. Tom Savini’s effects are also very effective.

The Bat* (1959) - This Vincent Price flick was fun, although it’s certainly not one of his best. It certainly has that 50’s horror charm, which over powered the slow pace and campy aesthetics. I also enjoyed how it played with the audience about who the killer is, rather then making it the obvious choices.

American Psycho (2000) - Although it feels a bit dated, and a little slow at times, Christian Bale’s performance is mesmerizing. It’s definitely worth a watch just to see the scenes when he goes off the deep end. Not a great movie, but one that is always fun to see.

A Clockwork Orange (1971) - There’s really nothing I can say about this film that hasn’t been said before. Incredible visuals, disturbing characters, and a zany plot. As most of you know, it’s a Kubrick classic!

Horror of Dracula (1958) - Christopher Lee is top notch as the Count, and Peter Cushing makes for an excellent Van Helsing. I do love the vibe of the old Hammer horror films, although I don’t think it matches the atmosphere of the Lugosi version. My only complaint is that it moves very slow, but when it picks up, it’s great stuff.

Spoiler for gif.

The ending is kind of awesome. It's just a shame that overall the interesting aspects were secondary and it was difficult to care about the human characters.
that sequence alone makes it higher than as measly 3 out of 10!!

I can understand that logic. The thing is most of the movie was incredibly flat. Maybe it's just me. A lot of people liked it.

And it has Stretch! My favorite final girl. Caroline Williams is a national treasure, she should be in every movie.

Today's the day! Today marks the kick off to my 4th Annual "Mega Monster Movie Marathon" 31 Specially Selected Horror films/Halloween Specials from my Personal collection of Blu Rays, DVD's, and Digital Files leading up to Halloween!
This is the 4th year of said marathon and the rules are simple... Official Selections must be a Horror movie, or a Halloween themed tv special, and previous selections from past years marathons are not eligible for future marathon entries until all Horror/Halloween videos have been viewed as part of a marathon.. (And I'm years away from that). Bonus Entries are unofficial selections that have no restrictions to ensure the "Classics" can be viewed each year. With all of that said, on to Tonight's selections!

BOLD = First Time Viewing

#1. Witchboard (1986) (Blu Ray)

Query...is there any way to have the "half-skull" emoticon not hover halfway up the full skull ones?

I have been participating in this event since 2009, and this year I'm making it a part of my YouTube channel. I will watch a horror film every night, and at the end of each week will post a video on what I watched and everyone else can post what they watched in the comments and we can all discuss.

Just to keep me out of trouble with the mods, I can't list the name of my channel here. But if any of you want to check it out, send me a pm and I'll send my channel name and announcement video link.

You bring up a good point... I did this last year and have adjusted Entry #1 this year to correct this as well. Considering how many years this thread has been running, you'd think we'd be able to get a half skull added to the Smiles list officially.

I asked today for them to put the "half skull" Smilies in the Feedback Forum Site improvements and Wiki!

Update:

Also just edited for them to add "half-santa" Smilies for those like me that like to rate their Christmas movies
for the up-coming Christmas season!

1. Maniac (1980) (Blu Ray)

The highlight for me was
[Show spoiler]Tom Savini getting his head blown apart with a shot gun
great effects and a genuinely creepy lead role by Joe Spinell. Directed by Bill Lustig who also directed the Maniac Cop films. Adult film stars Sharon Mitchell and Abigail Clayton playing a bit parts too, apparently Bill used to direct skin flicks before going mainstream.

I managed 30 minutes of the Scream tv series. I am usually patient as well. What a heap of steaming horse poo IMO.
