Saw this edited on the SyFy channel years ago but have yet to see it uncut, probably should give it a rewatch. The film really is an hommage to Lucio Fulci and you can spot references to The Beyond as well as The House By The Cemetery. I believe the bar in the town is a replica of the bar that is decimated by zombies in Fulci's City Of The Living Dead. Also, the character of Jacob is played by director Larry Fessenden who did The Last Winter and Wendigo among others (Scream released several of his directorial efforts in The Larry Fessenden Collection).

Fulci is probably a little more of an acquired taste than a more prominent Italian horror director like Argento. I like Fulci overall, but I don't find him to be the kind of genius that some horror fanatics do. He has some great visuals in a lot of his movies, but there are also just as many lame ideas and weakly executed sequences (the spiders in The Beyond have to be one of the most incompetent things I have ever seen).

I am one of the weirdos that tends to like Fulci's gialli more than his gory horror stuff (although the ultra gory Zombie is still my favorite from him since I saw it first). I also enjoy the Hammer-esque atmosphere he creates in films like The Black Cat more than the in-your-face stuff like The Beyond or City of the Living Dead.

Of the ones I have seen, my top 5 favorite Fulci movies are probably:

- Zombie aka Zombi 2 aka Zombie Flesh Eaters
- The House by the Cemetery
- The Psychic aka Seven Notes in Black
- The Black Cat
- Lizard in a Woman's Skin (I even have an original Spanish one-sheet hanging in my house)

Different strokes, I suppose, I love this film and Barbara Crampton. Lisa Marie & Larry Fessenden may be the wackiest couple I've seen in years, kudos to the casting agent for that. Great practical effects and the winter setting establishes a nicely bleak atmosphere. I also dig the fact that it centers around middle-aged adults, a rarity in horror these days.

And Monte Markham, what a career. I'd love to see his 80s horror flick Judgement Day hit Blu, I wore the shit out of that videotape as a kid.

I watched this on Netflix a week or so ago. And then found a new copy of it on BD at FYE for $4.97 new. So I picked it up today.

I watched this about a year ago now and thought it was pretty good. I don't think I'd rewatch it ever again and remember thinking it felt like more of a comedy at most points.

Now I need to watch a classic horror film to wipe the bad taste if this out of my mouth.
That's how I felt, and I unfortunately blind bought it on Day 1. It left my collection immediately.

A majority of people may recognize him from his role in Until Dawn as well.

In no way is this movie awful...its pretty well done and holds the attention. Living in upstate NY it totally has that small town out in the country creepy winter vibe. Its not perfect but Ill take it over many classic horror films that just feel dated.

I think that is a fair rating and is what I rated it on Netflix. There were definitely some great aspects of the film, but ultimately it left me wanting or hoping for more.

3/5 is spot on for this movie. Blind bought, watched, liked. Wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised.

That is some horrible cover art.

I'll be honest, I never in my wildest dreams would have guessed that this film and so many other indies from the 2010's would see anniversary edition re-releases. I fully expected them to have their initial release and then sort of just get lost amongst all the streaming slop as physical media sales shrunk. I am beyond thrilled to see Dark Sky putting out these re-release editions as these films are every bit as enjoyable as the lower-midtier video store junk we all like to lap up.

Indies like this are the closest thing folks will ever get to experiencing the fun discovery aspect of video stores of the 80's and 90's.

I ordered this for the new features and commentary and they shipped the next day. I adore this movie. I don't care what anyone says it's got a great vibe to it.

10th Anniversary Blu-ray runs 15-20 Mbps lower than the original MPI disc, often running in the high teens, low 20s. What a letdown, especially for the price. Passionate fans are forgiven for buying it for the extra bonus features, but should hold on to the original disc for actually watching the film itself.

That's to bad, I haven't watched it yet but I did keep the old disc as I always do with titles I really care about. I also kept the old sleeve art as I really like the house cover.
