My copy is on the way. I assumed it would be the same transfer I've seen on a boot tape, but with subtitles. So no shock here.

Either way, I'm super fine with it. I wanted this on a legit release with subs for a while.

Definitely upgrading my Delicate Skillful Fingers DVD to BD unless the transfer is screwed. One of the best Roman Porno films.

Also getting Circuit of Sorrow (surely the only true account race driver Roman Porno out there!) though that's sadly DVD only. Might also consider Modern Prostitution: Lust Under a Uniform DVD as it's one of Sone's better films (don't believe Weisser, he bashed it without having seen it).

I really have no idea why they even bother. I will think very carefully before purchasing anymore of their discs, as they obviously aren't interested in releasing much on Blu-ray outside of the oversaturated horror genre.

I'm not sure how much a difference BD would make for a movie that was shot on video, though.

At least it wouldn't make the movie any less awful. This is one of the Roman X titles, hard core (supposedly) movies made for video distribution.

It will be interesting to see if they get a new transfer for the sequel, though. That one is a beautiful psycho horror gem, and a theatrical Roman Porno shot in 35mm of course.

I have no idea what “Roman Porno” is (I am especially confused with that name since it is Japanese) but by the looks of it, I want to see an example ASAP.

yes, or obscured by composition. on the plus side, the scripts tend to be written and imaginative, probably more often than not.

seriously, technically pornographic in a way, but really films in a more traditional sense with a focus on sex and relationships from varying (philosophical) angles.

At first glance, it seems like all ten have been released in Japan (and of course, the one Blu-ray I own is also from this ten) but if the box set actually happens this time, I'll be buying. I'm sick and tired of waiting for these to get English-friendly releases.

you'll be waiting forever, i guess. american market for more unusual films seems to have assumed everything else has been released and opted for the genuinely trashy end of things.

we went from a market that looked like cult films would be stuck on DVD and non-viable for BD to even the crappiest getting restorations and some kind of new lease of life after probably not having seen the light for the last generation or more of formats.

still surprised that even the RP that did get a release stateside didn't make as much of an impression as their content would suggest they're capable of. lots of genre fans really missed out on fantastic films that they probably assumed were of no interest because of a complete bias towards the sex scenes.

And hell, this set just got more underwhelming, since I just realized that five of the titles are the Roman Porno Reboot films from 2016, so now that's only four I want from this set.

Guess I'll be buying individually, unless the box set contents are spectacular.

I suppose the idea was to pair each reboot film with a movie from the original series. Night of the Felines (1972) was the inspiration for Dawn of the Felines (2016), Black Rose Ascension (1975) is about a pink actress just like Aroused by Gymnopedies (2016), Lovers Are Wet (1973) makes a pair with Wet Woman in the Wind (2016), Red Porno is Sion Sono's (Antiporno, 2016) favorite Roman Porno, and Hideo Nakata (White Lily, 2016) started as Masaru Konuma's (Lady Karuizawa, 1982) assistant director

Though obviously they should've paired White Lily with Lesbians in Uniform. Both equally bad films

Still, it's hard to think of a more underwhelming set.
