I'm reading Act of Treason right now, but think I've read all the rest. Including the new writer's first one. He's got another coming out in September I believe.

The movie may be graphic, but that follows along with the character in the books. Mitch is

They showed the trailer before Wind River.

Love me some Michael Keaton.

The film looks pretty damn fantastic! Going on the "must see" list.

I’m starting to get more excited about this. I was gonna hate-watch it after seeing the first trailer, but since I’ve heard some good things.

Hopefully it does well.

Really hoping this is just a good, dumb action movie with a limited amount of sfx and crappy jump editing.

My neighbors attended the premiere here in the Twin Cities last Friday (family friends with the Flynn's). They were able to watch the film and speak with the producer - Lorenzo di Bonaventura -for about 10 minutes afterwards.

I asked them a TON of questions.

Without getting into the weeds...

If you're expecting a polished Mitch Rapp, change your expectations. Obviously this is American Assassin - when he's learning. Not someone who has been playing the game for 10-15 years.

Yes, the plot veers from that of the book - not shocking. But, I was told that the plot actually merges American Assassin and another book. My neighbor refused to tell me as he thought that'd give too much away)

Obviously, the box office will dictate if there will be a sequel, but the producer wasn't all that optimistic - IT will probably be #1 again this weekend (when AA opens) and next week Kingsmen opens, so not a lot of time for AA to find its footing.

The producer also said that for a while, the novel Consent to Kill was going to be adapted first - with Mark Wahlberg in the lead. Thank God that didn't happen.

I'll be seeing this tomorrow, looking forward to it. My pass says "Red Carpet Screening" so that should be fun lol. One of the few trailers I've seen recently that actually got me interested in something I'd never heard of.

Basically anything Michael Keaton has touched the last three years has been great. I'm in.

I saw it last Friday at the premiere in the Twin Cities. Ran into Royals great George Brett there too. Him and Vince were good friends.

As a huge Vince Flynn fan, I went into the movie with tempered expectations so as to not be disappointed if it didn't live up to what I've been reading about Mitch Rapp for over a decade.

All I can say is wow, this movie was really good. Dylan O'Brien really surprised me with how he took to the role of a young Mitch Rapp. Keaton was really fun as Stan Hurley. Sanaa Lathan was a convincing and well-done Irene Kennedy too. I really hope they can keep O'Brien and Lathan together for a few more movies. They're great together.

I'll be seeing it again this weekend. Also, pay attention to the name of the ship near the end of the movie. A nice nod to the late, great Vince Flynn.

Rotten Tomatoes scores are starting to come in... currently at 40%.

I guess that means it isn't going to succeed at the BO, right Bret Ratner??

I had zero interest in watching this... Until I glanced at these negative blurbs. Now I won't miss it for the world. Talk about agenda-driven, elitist, overly-sensitive reviewers. No wonder audiences at large don't read them.

It's like when Assassin's Creed opened to scathing reviews - the most recurrent criticisms actually made the film seem very interesting. I ended up liking it a lot.

Line was too long yesterday so I passed on seeing this, went to IT instead (no regrets).

Looking forward to this one. One review hinted at it reminding them of Taken (1 hopefully, not 2 or 3).

Just got out. I would say as someone who has never read any of the books, just a fan of action flicks and Micheal Keaton, it was not a great movie, it was not a bad movie.

Solid action, good pacing, Dialogue and plot clunky and telegraphed, but I think Keaton and main star did a good job.

I felt like with some rewrites and some more unique action it could have been a top notch action flick but still a fun watch.

Don't normally rate but i'd say 6.9/10

Will wait for Netflix on this one...read the book, which was good, but not "$11.00 matinee" good. Plus, mother! drops tomorrow, so I'm saving my moolah for that.

Really enjoyed this flick tonight. Did a double feature with Mother, and found this much more enjoyable. Made me think of homeland and various 80s patriotic action hero flicks.

Movie titles sure are becoming predictable. American Sniper, American Assassin, American Mummy, American Heist. What's next? American Jedi?
