Huh? Aren't the Region A/B releases mainly stuff they are releasing in both regions? I think their Yoshida set is probably one of the rare examples that's mewnt for the UK but is region free (perhaps a US release is planned). What others that were released recently are you referring to?

Besides Deep Red and maybe a few other exceptions, most of their A/B titles are that way simply because they've secured the rights in both the UK and US.

The import of The Hard Way from the U.K. is available on Amazon.com and it is region free. I'm sure it is because I watched it on Saturday on a region A player.

It's virtually guaranteed that Universal will utilize the awful pre-existing master and release the film bare-bones, so it's only natural in this case that people will lament the lack of a SF edition and express a desire to wait/hope for an improved version akin to the acclaimed one released by Arrow. It's not just a case (pun intended) of slip-case obsession/blind brand loyalty this time.

Even/when Shout licenses this title there's no guarantee that they'll have access to Arrow's transfer. From what I understand Arrow financed the transfer themselves. Universal is even less likely to use Arrow's transfer so any future Shout Factory release will probably just be a port of whatever Universal is using. If anyone wants more than just a cheap plain vanilla release AND you don't feel like sitting around waiting for a Shout Factory release that may or may not happen then Region-free is the way to go here.

And since when are Shout the heroes? I constantly read criticisms of their releases on various threads. Escape from New York comes readily to mind.

Something which Arrow already released themselves, funnily enough. But of course that one's locked so it doesn't do American folks who can't play region B discs any good.
