Must be some sort of stealth release in the UK. The only store listing it is HMV and even that was buried on the site. Amazon just show Italian and German imports. I wouldn't even have known it was released, had I not seen a sealed copy for sale on ebay.co.uk.

I was extremely disappointed with the PQ of this one, given how much I liked the PQ of Days of Future Past. It seemed VERY soft, and the HDR/wide color gamut were so dull that I actually turned my TV off and restarted my Samsung player to make sure it wasn't bugging on me and showing me SDR. In the end, I had to turn dynamic contrast to medium to make it have ANY punch at all (I usually have all post-processing off). I don't know if the bland picture was intended because of the 60's setting, but it really just seemed like a waste of money to me.
For reference, I have a 4k HDR OLED tv with over 30 4k blurays - and this was one of the most disappointing PQ yet. |

*Minor Spoilers below* I would recommend to go the beginning of chapter 6, where it shows the mountains and grass. Quite the difference between the 4K and the blu-ray. If you continue watching, it's one the most famous scenes of the movie "the bar scene". The color is much more accurate in the 4K version, slight tint of red in the Blu-ray. Another scene with quite the difference in quality is in the chapter 28. The scene where Magneto uses the coin. The scene is full of blue lighting. The 4K Blu-ray has much more details in the faces throughout the scene. I don't think this is the best 4K blu-ray but I'm seeing a difference. This is another movie where HDR and the Wide Color Gamut shows its benefits. The upscale in resolution is noticeable but doesn't produce the wow factor as other 4K titles. |

Has anyone watched this one straight through yet?
The reviewer over here http://whysoblu.com/x-men-first-clas...lu-ray-review/ is saying he saw judder and had an audio skip in it. I bought this one with Apocalypse at Target, but haven't popped either of them in yet. Wondering if I should take First Class back. |

I agree. While it's not a drastic difference over the BD, I've noticed details that aren't as apparent in the 1080p version. Stray hairs on people, textures in clothing. It also has a very nice layer of grain. The bargain-basement X-Men kids look as shit as ever, but we knew that already.

I watched this yesterday and was quite disappointed. To me it looks softer than the Blu-ray, not in terms of detail but of texture, as the close-ups of people's faces look slightly plasticky, for want of a better word. And although the extra gamut and dynamic range do offer up the usual refinements - things like skies and bright backgrounds have more depth and clarity e.g. on the Blu I can hardly read the slide that Xavier's presenting to the CIA bods but it's clearly legible on the UHD - they come at the expense of skin tones sometimes looking a bit orangey and actually less nuanced than on the Blu in some instances. Hmmm.
If this had an Atmos remix then at least it'd be worth keeping for that (like with Hunger Games 1), and if it had a 4K finish originally then any increase in detail (however small) and refinement of the grain would have been worth keeping hold of also, but as it is it's still 2K and reminds me of ST '09 in UHD: obvious improvements in dynamic range but other aspects of the image have gone backwards. |

Yeah, since reading reviews of this and DOFP, I've been trying to hold off updating to UHD until a trilogy set is released at a good discount. But the great reviews of Apocalypse on UHD are making it hard to not pick them up before then. The completest in me would hate to have one movie from a series on UHD without owning all of them.

I thought the UHD BD was a nice improvement over the Blu-ray. There are more details visible in some scenes and the dark scenes with the colorful CGI look much better. But I sold the disc because I don't want to miss the scenes from the Rogue cut.
What I don't understand is all that praise for Apocalypse. Yes, the UHD version looks great but so does the upscaled Blu-ray. I compared many scenes and the difference was minimal to none existent most of the time. |

![]() I do agree about DOFP though, the blu is already exceptional but the UHD has better colour and range. Apocalypse is a tricky one because the blu is also exceptional, but the UHD kicks it up another notch. I see more detail, more range and the colour, oh my god the colour. The UHD versions deserves all the praise it gets IMO. |

That said, Apocalypse is crystal clear and sharp as a mofo, definitely an obvious resolution improvement for enthusiasts. Those 4k DIs do look sharp in the forkay. |
