Yeah Del Toro was incredible and I thought Josh Brolin was great too. Im pretty impressed with both of them on all their movies.

What does being Liberal have to do with her character in Sicario? She's a 'by-the-books' law enforcement officer.

I agree. Blunt's character was necessary to serve as a comparison to the actions of the other agents and Del Toro's character. Just because she is the main character doesn't necessarily mean the film is demanding we see her viewpoint. Actually, I think that the film showed there is no black and white when it comes to confronting the monumental problems depicted.

Yeah it made sense for her to be by-the-book, that was the whole movie's conflict really. I don't really equate that with liberal either, politically. Her character was my small beef with the movie though, as I thought she was portrayed as too dopey and naive and didn't adapt to the situation at all.

Simply put.... unequivocally the best film I've watched this year and it has to be around 200 or so. Sicario is a arguably the second best. It's just a shame there's such a small amount of activity in this thread. I guess if a movie isn't a blockbuster or totally mainstream, there's very little interest.
This film had everything. Excellent story, acting, directing, cinematography and soundtrack.
I believe you'll see this up for multiple oscars for everything I just listed.

Politically correct liberal women? Do you believe that's what the writer and director was shooting for? Did you even watch the movie?

I agree with everything you said but differ in this point. She was portrayed dopey for the exact reasons why she was there in the first place.

Any ideas when this might be released in 4K? Or a possibility of a Steelbook? Its $15 right now but I'd wait for either.

Kinda funny this movie was brought up. I got my parents to watch this on Thanksgiving and my Dad said after the movie that they should have got Pine to play Brolin's role as he was more of capable of getting sympathy from the viewer. While he would have been too young, presumably, at the time of NCFOM, if the film was made today I'd agree with him.

The best way to describe it is got some influence or is paying a homage to No Country along with The Town but even noticing those influences I never once felt that I was watching a movie trying to be those at all. I left the experience feeling like I watched a great strong film that stood on its own.

This film is a true reminder that every now and then Hollywood is capable of producing a great film of the type that was much more prevalent in the past. Hollywood needs to produce more of this type of film, instead of the endless stream of superhero movies, reboots, remakes, etc. It's nice to see a film like this surface, it's a glimpse of what Hollywood is capable of in terms of masterful film making aimed at a mature adult audience. This movie is certainly worthy of all the praise and accolades it's been getting.

I just thought she was unrealistically dopey. She killed a corrupt Mexican cop early on but then refused to believe one was a bad guy later on, for example. Stuff like that just bugged me. I loved the movie overall though.

Why do people tend to bash Hollywood and modern movies in order to praise a good one? I think there are still tons of great movies coming out, they're just often not the most promoted ones.

I Wholeheartedly agree. If you look at my collection, you'll see I have a boatload of films post 2000 Hollywood that are excellent films. But a lot of less then great ones too, but I'm pretty diverese and easy to please.
A lot of Subscribers to this site say exactly that. Hollywood sucks, there's no good movies any more, nothing but superhero movies, on and on.
Now I'm just 1 person who agrees with you in your statement, but I believe many of us agree with you.

The gas station scene reminded me of Ray Liotta punching the guy in the driveway in Goodfellas. Anyone else?
