Yeah, can't recall if it was on the monsters mouth or Drax, but I distinctly remember seeing it.

The presentation was sublime where I saw it as well (not locally like GITS). So much so that it made my vt60 look like complete trash, then the cinemas was clean and the seats where large with spacious room for your legs (and the seats where all recliners). Even more impressive, the 3d was extremely bright, as in the big screen to my eyes seemed similarly bright to my w7000 projecting around a 110" image (and that projector at home is a light canon). The surround was spot on as well.

If my local cinema was anything like this i'd be there every week without fail. Really impressive stuff. I know a new cinema is being built near me, crossing my fingers it is of the same quality as this and not the current one.

Glad to hear you had a comfortable, very positive 3D theater experience with GOTG2. That's my experience most times with Cinemark, Regal and a couple other big chain theaters. I still remember back in the late 90's when stadium seating became more common in theaters. It made all of the difference and finally eliminated the dread of sitting behind someone taller than you, blocking your view of the screen in a level floor theater. They even added soda cup holders on the arm rests, and with reclining seats too.

I bet your new theater will feature much of what you experienced there. Glad to hear it. I can't imagine any new theater would ever settle for a flat floor compared to stadium seating ever again.

Yeah it was great. It was also the quality of the presentation, seeing such a large image in 3d, without brightness issues was genuinely breathtaking. Likewise the blacks whilst not perfect seemed similar to that of the best a plasma was ever able to achieve, and the colours where beautiful. Genuinely have never been so impressed by a presentation (I suspect 4k 3d DI's are being sent out as well as no sign of pixels where present even on text, though this is speculation, though that 3d trailer yt channel has the star wars trailer in 4k 3d when you download it).

A presentation that surpassed any 70mm projection I've seen of films, genuinely something I didn't expect to see any time soon.

Great. Suntory, did you have a favorite 3D shot in the film, one that you can picture in your mind that really stood out in 3D?

The shoot where the camera circles around the guardians in the finale is the most stand out shoot with very well used 3d. It is very similar in idea to the below shoot in the first Avengers film. However it was done in a far more dynamic way with characters I liked far more then the Avengers. To the point that the shoot in avengers feels very basic and relatively boring in comparison.

As for the most entertaining 3d shoot in terms of depth and amount of 3d alone I couldn't say for certain, there where just so many great uses of the format continuously throughout the film. One that does come to mind is when Rocket Raccoon is launching some people into the air up and down over and over again and there is a shoot with "bubbles" overhead breaking apart with the camera looking down at the characters with this happening. Then there are some shoots of the arrow coming right out of the screen that Yondu uses as a weapon and controls with his whistling.

Like the first film this is really what a 3d film should be always in terms of how well the format added to the film. The second film does have a consistently stronger level of depth where the first film often drops back to some low medium and mild 3d at times. It wasn't simply tacked on with minimal depth like the latest underworld which is a huge problem with people being unwilling to see let alone pay a premium for a 3d film. I do wonder now conversions are offering strong depth if it can win back general audiences (especially if thor 3 looks as good as the trailer suggests, and even more medium depth looking films like the mummy seem to be a big step up from 2+ years ago). I hope so but a few years of generally sub par 3d conversions followed by a few more of more mixed results is going to be a huge hurdle to overcome.

Went over to the neighboring city to see this in Imax 3D today. Got there at 3pm to go ahead and get tickets and found out it was already sold out! Bleh! Ended up coming home and saw it in RealD 3D instead. There were only about a dozen or so of us there.I guess I know where every one else was at.

Like others have said, the 3D is very ,very good. Medium to upper/medium-strong with some strong moments.

The movie was OK, I liked the 1st one better, yet it does have its moments.

FTR, there was 1 pre-credits scene, 2 mid credits scenes, and 1 post-credits scene.

4 3D trailers- all were upper/medium strong
Spiderman-Homecoming
Thor: Ragnarok
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets-saw this for the 1st time in 3D and was totally wowed. I was kinda iffy about seeing this but it got boosted way up my list to see in the theater

Saw this at 7pm last night, sold out showing in Real D. The 3D was very good and basically the same as the first. I may have enjoyed the first experience a bit more seeing it in IMAX with aspect ratio expansion and a couple frame break effects, though it seems like this will have that as well (when I went to get tickets online a week ago, the IMAX only had seats in the first two rows which I don't want with a a screen over 95 feet). Film was also good even if I liked it rather than loving it like the first.

There were 4 2D trailers and 4 3D ones (which got a bit tiring, also the Wonder Woman and Transformers trailers played in 2D despite being 3D movies), the 3D trailers were Thor, The Last Jedi, Valerian, and The Mummy; The Mummy looked pretty mild unfortunately but the others were good.

Hope Disney/Marvel offers this in 3D blu in America (at the moment Best Buy just has standard Blu and DVD pre-orders but it is extremely early and could also be a retailer exclusive) and that it continues with offering the IMAX version on the 3D. I saw Doctor Strange 3D blu this week and that image expansion certainly made a difference over the regular 3D version I saw theatrically (I also would've liked to have seen that in IMAX, but it was closed for renovation at the time).

I also preordered the Zavvi 3D/2D steelbook steelbook even though Best Buy is supposed to release the 3D/2D steelbook here in the USA.

Saw this in IMAX 3D last night and just loved it! Like others have said, some pretty strong 3D throughout, yeah some parts were just meh but when the 3D shines, it shines bright!

Was absolutely first rate. Eye popping with multiple layers. Cannot recommend this movie highly enough. About to get ready for the 3D Blu war that will undoubtedly occur between Amazon and all the other players out there including Best Buy , Target, & Barnes and Noble. Who is going to offer it first with the best packaging and swag? The race is on!

Reviews sound promising, thanks all.
Hopefully this will be listed on blu ray 3D soon for pre-orders.

Thanks! That sounds good. I'll look for those 3D shots in GOTG2.
Yes, hopefully more strong 3D films to win more 3D fans. Mild 3D films turn people away from 3D, so it's good to see more medium and strong 3D films arriving in theaters.

Great 3D! Some of the strongest I've seen in a theater ever. Stronger than even Dr. Strange. Also great trailers in 3D for Thor and Star Wars. I could just tell it seemed like everything was going to pop by the first trailer.

Went to a 3D showing and I'm reacting to the 3 ending credit scenes:
[Show spoiler]None of the scenes were in 3D! A first! Could that be the studios attempt to prepare us for 2D only next time?

At least the post credits scene has been in 2D since the restaurant scene with the Avengers, and it was for the first Guardians also, so I wouldn't read too much into it (though I actually believe the post credits scene in the first Thor is the only shot in 3D scene in the MCU films). I'm guessing they figure people like to take off their glasses with the credit roll, or don't want bother with the money/effort of converting bonus scenes (even though I wished they did).

Guardians 3 is years away so who knows what the future holds, but James Gunn and Kevin Feige have both been big proponents of 3D, so I'd fully expect it to be in 3D barring a major 3D rollback (though no 3D blu release for it might be very possible given the trend of things). BTW, I'm sure the percentage will go down later in release as it's fewer fans in the audience, but Guardians 2 did 53% of its Thursday night business in 3D, and it's been a while (maybe since Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension) that I recall hearing about the majority of business being done in 3D, so hope the film continues to do well in 3D.

I think the US is the only place that doesn't have GOTG vol2 up for preorder already.
Zavvi site is already sold out on the steelbook and so is FNAC site. Amazon.de still has it as available for preorder.

Thumbs up

You guys were right about the 3D. Awesome.

3D Previews: Cinemark 3D theater, middle row, middle seat, sitting straight up, not leaning back (which can diminish the 3D effect if the 3D glasses are titled upward instead of horizontal).
Spider-Man Homecoming 3D: Looks like high medium to strong 3D.
Thor Ragnarok 3D: Looks like high medium to strong 3D.
Valerian and City of 1000 Planets 3D: Looks like high medium to strong 3D.
I also got some 2D trailers of 3D movies... Wonder Woman, Mummy.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 3D:
3D Layers: 10/10. Mostly high medium to strong 3D layers. There were so many great 3D shots in the strong range, reminding me of the strong 3D shots of Ant-Man running through the ground tunnels with the ants around him. Amazing looking movie in 3D and surpasses the first with more strong 3D shots from what I saw.
3D Pop Outs: 9/10. Lots of intentional stuff reaching out of the screen, whether people, particles, snow flakes, sparks, bubbles, rocks, needle darts, etc.
3D Framing: 8/10. Most shots frame the characters inside of the frame without cropping off their heads, though there are a few shots where this happens now and then. The layout of many shots look like they were given though towards how they would affect the 3D spacing. Good stuff.
3D Summary: 10/10. Mostly strong 3D layers, a good number of pop outs and a generally very impressive 3D experience, made for 3D. Awesome.

While not every joke worked, there were some very funny skits in the film, especially one having to do with
[Show spoiler]Groot when he had to find the crest to help Rocket and Yondu (blue Michael Rooker)
. The story developed more as a mystery where
[Show spoiler]we weren't sure who the main villain was exactly till later in the story
. The ending was epic and the special effects, excellent. Fun movie and I enjoyed it as much as the first one to my surprise.

If summer movies continue to offer strong 3D experiences like this, it can definitely spur more 3D sales by word of mouth.
Target.com only has a blu ray and DVD version out for pre order, but here's hoping for a blu ray 3D version soon in the US. I cannot imagine watching this in 2D, knowing how great the 3D is.

While some will have 3D, like the post credits end scene of the latest Doctor Strange 3D, others won't, possibly because the end shots are added at the last minute, preventing conversion work. Guardians of the Galaxy 1, the end credit scene with
[Show spoiler]Howard the Duck
was in 2D also.

I watched this today on IMAX and really enjoyed it. The 3D was great, best use of 3D by Marvel so far. The music was great, terrific selection, and the story was good. The chemistry the characters have with each other is great. I really enjoyed the movie and the 3D really delivered.

Trailers
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets - awesome 3D, this made it onto my must watch list.
Spiderman-Homecoming - good 3D
The Mummy - this was a new trailer for me, had Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones in the background and it looks ok.
Thor: Ragnarok - good 3D
Star Wars: The Last Jedi - the trailer isn't revealing much but its Star Wars so its awesome!

Very happy with movie and the trailers were pretty good with Valerian being a real pleasant surprise.

Cool. Glad you enjoyed it.

I forgot to say they showed the Last Jedi 3D trailer. That was great to see in the theater with 3D instead of a 2D version.

My favorite 3D shot in the movie is when Michael Rooker as the blue Yondu is running on the rail walkway with his flying red dart with
[Show spoiler]Groot in slow motion and there are about 20 enemies falling around him through the air.
Just one example of the amazing 3D of this movie.

I only spotted one conversion error so far, which is when tiny Groot is running away from the camera into the tiny blue tunnel with that item, and on the left side of the tunnel, it shifts for a split second in only one spot. The 3D was great in the shot, so no big deal.

After watching Vol. 2 in 3D theatrically, just to compare the two, I just got through watching the first one again using the OLED 65E6P at home. The 3D is so impressive in that one it will be amazing if Vol 2 produces stronger 3D.
Also didn't notice the breaking of the bars before, in the first one when Groot stabs Drax The Destroyer, making him cough-up yellow slime he ingested when thrown in the goop.
