A reliable source has reported that AGFA recently showed an unannounced film in a film festival of some sort. According to a twitter post, the unannounced film was Ed Wood's TAKE IT OUT IN TRADE (1970).

No word on whether that film might be eligible for a Blu-ray or DVD release, but Ed Wood fans can hope. I assume that the film was screened in 35mm, but I don't know that.

Yeah, it was shown at Fantastic Fest and it was a secret screening. It was met with immense controversy given what's going on with the individuals who run that film festival. It was just really wrong place and wrong time, bad timing with the dark clouds over the fest.

A Drafthouse spokesperson has emailed me that AGFA/SWV does intend to release Ed Wood's TAKE IT OUT IN TRADE on Blu-ray sometime in 2018. I really hope that happens, as TRADE has been among the missing for a very long time.

It's an incredibly stupid non-issue/controversy being stirred up by a guy who who used to work at the festival and very publicly quit during the recent sexual assault allegations.
He posted on Facebook FALSELY claiming that TAKE IT OUT IN TRADE contained 'violence against women,' which it absolutely does not, and that audiences basically had no idea that the film they were about to see had simulated sex scenes, which they absolutely did seeing as the festival website made a point to mention this in the event description, and the film was preceded by an intro which discussed its history and content. It should be noted that neither he nor just about all of the people blindly defending his nonsensical allegations either attended the festival or have even seen the film.

The actual significance of the event, which is that AGFA found and restored a lost film, is being pointlessly overshadowed by lies from some attention seekers who weren't even there.

I think it's a mistake to issue apologies for films in the form of explanations of context in advance before the film screens. Just show the damn film and give the audience the responsibility to do their homework and decide if it's something they want to attend or not.

Thanks John for clarifying that situation. It's a shame that the unearthing of a rare film was derailed by meaningless BS. I bet that most of the people in attendance could see through the hypocrisy.

Ironically, I recently suggested that Vinegar Syndrome might want to search for TAKE IT OUT IN TRADE. I guess that won't happen, with AGFA/SWV now attached to the film.

With my recent purchase of Effects (an absolute blind buy for me), I have now become a fan of AGFA. The blu-ray not only looks great but I absolutely loved the film. It's a seriously fun film with lots of sleaze and heart. Highly recommended.

Next one on my list is The Zodiac Killer.

Thanks for the recommendation. Hadn’t seen much talk about Effects. It wasn’t even mentioned in their first batch of 10 titles or so that they said they would be releasing when they did their indiegogo campaign. Actually, I believe only The Zodiac Killer and The Violent Years were on that list; the other 3 known releases were not. Between this and MVD Rewind, I think I’ve found a fourth and fifth label to start collecting.

All The Sins Of Sodom PQ is disappointing. If you love this movie as much as I do you'll have to keep your Vinegar Syndrome BR (and get this too for Vibrations). Collecting Joe Sarno is running into $$$.

I just watched the AGFA release of EFFECTS (I already owned the Synapse DVD) and while watching the Blu, I was kind of surprised by the amount of vertical scratches and other such damage to the print. I then popped in the Synapse DVD and that was obviously taken from a different source as there are really no scratches and it looks terrific (for a 16mm film, of course). Just look at the

sequence and you'll see lots of lines on Pilato's face and other characters while

on the AGFA, but no lines at all on the Synapse print.

I googled a bit and there's not much info out there, but from what I did read, it appears AGFA used the only 35mm print (the film was shot on 16mm) blow-up that survives, and thus it has damage and scratches. But what was Synapse's DVD taken from? Some say they had access to the original 16mm negative, therefore none of the wear and tear; but the 16mm negative is supposedly now completely lost. Or did Synapse use the same sole 35mm blow-up print AGFA used, but in the intervening years, it's been damaged considerably?

All this said, the AGFA release is still stellar and the HD upgrade is improved, but I was caught off-guard by the amount of scratches as I didn't remember all of that from the Synapse release, and I actually saw a screening of the film in 1981 at the Academy of Sci-Fi and Horror Films which was probably the same and only 35mm print that exists today. I'll just keep both releases now and I am happy with both, but I still kind of want to know what source Synapse had access to as it was obviously in way better shape - unfortunately, Blu wasn't a format at the time Synapse released their DVD.

I'll skip this one then. The dvd for Vibrations is good enough.
