Up for pre-order on Amazon UK. Pre-ordered all three (Blu-ray, Steelbook, 4K) until I decide which one to get.

Standard bu-ray preorder is up on Amazon for $24.99, surely to drop considering it's Lionsgate.

For people thinking about seeing the IMAX version: Do it!! I have seen the movie many times (most projected in 4k) and generally try and avoid liemax, but this was a much improved viewing experience. They did not mess with the aspect ratio (still 2.55) and the dual projector setup really helps the colors stand out (Mia's dresses!). Some shots even appeared to look slightly improved (vfx transition with parkour runner in opening number).

Oh and you get a 5-6min Dunkirk sequence before the movie (it's pretty awesome)

Just got out of the IMAX screening and I agree with just about everything you mentioned although for some odd reason the opening montage appeared a little dark in certain areas which was surprising since its set in the daytime. And it was finally shown in the correct aspect ratio and it wasn't masked. Most theaters make it easier to mask the 2.55 ratio on a 2.35 screen, which was my case when I first saw it on a regular screen.

sadly you don't get the wonderful faux 'Cinemascope' five front channel/speaker sound like you do on a proper Dolby Atmos screen ... [gloats] Lionsgate should have gone all out and now create some 35mm prints and 70mm prints for it's true film look (and how it was originally shot)

The October Middleburg Film Festival screening I saw this at initially, they were able to mask off the entire black border for it's proper 2.55 AR and it looked fantastic - the sound though wasn't it best til I heard it this last past Friday on Arclight's Bethesda's widescreen screen and it's full blown Dolby Atmos setup.

Just attempted to purchase a ticket for a showing tomorrow and my info didn't go through so I guess this will be a day one purchase for me.

I have to agree with all of the above. I saw it for the first time in IMAX Thursday night, and then listened to the soundtrack all weekend, and then went back and saw it in IMAX again Sunday night. If it wasn't clear from my avatar, all I ever listen to is gangsta rap. I've never been a huge fan of musicals except the classic Disney animated films. Even I love this movie and will be buying the bluray day 1.

Anyone who scrolls through my mp3 player will be very confused to see "La La Land OST" right there before "Ludacris."

I will probably try to go back and see it again in IMAX before Resident Evil Final Chapter or whatever takes over the IMAX theater.

Steelbook, you say?

How is Lionsgate on doing steelbooks in the US? Any track record?

Seeing it on an IMAX screen tomorrow. It will be my 4th viewing.

It has been at least 25 years since I saw a movie more than twice in the theater prior to home video release. 'La La Land' will be the FIRST film I've seen 4 times in the theater.

Yes, people, it's THAT good.

It's being replaced this week by xXx: Return of Xander Cage at both of the IMAX theaters near me.

So, I've decided to see it again in all its IMAX splendor.

The last film I saw 4 times in the theater was The Return of the King, thirteen years ago. La La Land has already surpassed that tally.

Darn it. You're right. Thanks for letting me know. When I last posted La La Land was listed as showing for another week after this week, but now my theater updated it's showtimes with XXX 2 on Thursday. I'm going to have to try to make the 10pm show Wednesday because that will be my final opportunity.

The last movie I saw 4 times in the theater was... Rogue One: A Star Wars Story... so I guess that wasn't very long ago. Before that was Dark Knight Rises, and before that was The Dark Knight, and before that was Bad Boys II. I somehow went from Bad Boys II to a romantic musical staring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. It just shows how enjoyable this film is. I've still had the soundtrack playing on a loop rather than my normal 2pac, Eminem, DMX, Tech N9ne, etc albums that I usually listen to over and over.

I'll be getting this for sure. Loved it. And picked up the soundtrack soon as I got out the theater.

Interesting that the expected release date for VUDU is 9/1. If this is the case... I'm kinda fine with the blu not being released for awhile as I've seen the film so many times already and it'll probably stay in theaters for awhile.

I just barely caught the film one more time in IMAX. Another Day of Sun was just starting when I walked in. If the cinematic masterpiece xXx: Return of Xander Cage wasn't taking over the IMAX theaters, I would go see La La Land more times than you saw Passengers.

I'm curious to see if this movie spawns a resurgence of old school big budget MGM style musicals. I guess it's safe to assume Hollywood will make a bunch of them as long as they make a profit. I don't want to get too political, but this movie is a nice escape from the day to day news lately. I'm thinking about how I guess the older musicals of the 50's and 60's were sort of uplifting following WWII.

Thank you. I preordered the steelbook. Hopefully we get a U.S. steelbook. This may have to be the 2nd time I ever import a bluray. I know that current steelbook pic says that it's not final, but I think it looks pretty damn good already.

I think it's sort of ironic that the film was shot in CinemaScope which was invented to combat the growing popularity of TV by drawing people back to theaters by giving them the 'big screen" experience but chains such as Cinemark and Regal are showing the film in their theaters with the new 4K projection systems that LETTERBOXES the film! Yep, black bars in theaters. (This is true for all scope films they show and is all done to save money by not paying to install maskable screens). Funny that people have to pay to see the film this way when eventually they will be able to see it the exact same way at home for free on their displays. So much for the big screen experience.
