I'm kinda up and down with it. To answer the question above it did indeed start out life as a Lethal Weapon script (IIRC) and even in its finished form it doesn't feel very Die-Hardy to me, so it depends what mood I'm in.

If I want a proper Die Hard film I'll watch one or two. If I want a cracking action film that just happens to have Die Hard in the title then I'll watch 3 and even the unrated edition of 4 (which I had a blast with last time I watched it).

That's what I meant upthread about the LW series being more consistent across the span of the franchise, even the fourth one still has a sprinkling of the magic of the original.

Complete agreement on Die Hard 3 (though I may have enjoyed it a little more than you), the unrated version of Die Hard 4 and the Lethal Weapon series as a whole. As I stated in my initial post I think the Lethal Weapon series as a whole is the best action series in film history with each one being pretty much equal in my book. Feels like an event whenever I watch that series. Not that Die Hard 1-4 don't. Just a different kind of event with those.

Lethal Weapon 2.

With that being said though I really like Die Hard 2 as well.

both are great sequels.... DIE HARD 2 gets a lot of hate on this site so when I saw this thread I figured it would a no contest...

Having said that I vote for the underdog... I never saw the original DIE HARD in the theater but I did for the sequel... perhaps that's why I love it so much as I was thoroughly impressed with the action and spectacle!

I guess this is all true. I just tend to have a higher "sequel is different" tolerance than most, I have found. Under Siege is probably the best Die Hard sequel, if we're talking style and tone.

Oh, I love Under Siege. It's not just the highlight of Seagal's career (IMO) but is quite simply a terrific action film in general.

As for sequel stuff, I love the anecdote from some director (may have been McTiernan) who had someone pitch them "Die Hard...in a building!"

Some people knock Die Hard 2, but I get some enjoyment out of it. I love the entirety of Die Hard up until that terribad 5th entry. The Collection had four movies...that's how it should be.

As for Lethal Weapon, the first is great, the second is pretty good, the third was alright, but I though 4 was a bit better than the third.

At some point in the past, I imagined a sixth Dirty Harry film with a geriatric Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) showing how well he could kick butt and still handle the kick on that .44 Magnum.

I believe so. Simon Says was the exact concept but I can't recall how it would have been used per say against Riggs & Murtaugh.

Speaking of Die Hards, it's just not Christmas until you've seen Hans Gruber getting f**ked off the top of Nakatomi Plaza...

I like both a lot but if I had to choose it'd be Lethal Weapon 2.

They're both great. I'll wimp out and say that they're equally great.

I love them both, but no competition: Lethal Weapon 2 all the way. It's another classic example of the sequel being the best (I think my favourite was #3), while Die Hard is more in line with "the first is always the best" (but my favourite is #3 lol). Die Hard 2 was "same-ish" to the first, and I don't like self-refenced jokes. "How can the same thing happen to the same guy?!" (Or something). Lethal Weapon 2 built on what came before it.

As for the question - I don't know. Both are great sequels, can't say which one is better.
