I really hope his influence can make this happen. Guardians of the Galaxy already looks amazing in 1080p. Disney don't do any home releases in Dolby Atmos like other studios either. They need to get with the now. Considering they love money I'm shocked they didn't get on board with the format when it launched.

Viable sure, but worth their effort and support when they don't need the money and want to push a different future? Maybe not. It all depends on their priorities.

Don't get me wrong, studios like money and Disney has always been patient on new formats. I'm sure that's all it is, and they will launch in due course. I'm just saying there's a chance they want to see if UHD is something they can ignore to keep pushing digital as the future, which is what all studios very much want to do.

Although Spider-Man Homecoming is a joint venture between Marvel and Sony will it fall under Disney's rule so Sony won't be releasing it in UHD 4K

Didn't see it posted already, sorry if it was. Nice little piece about GotG Vol. 2 in Dolby Cinema, from someone who attended the premiere at the Dolby Theater -- http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...y-cinema/38966

4/26/17 RUMOR UPDATE: there are rumors going around saying James Gunn was SO impressed by releasing Vol. 2 in Dolby Vision and Atmos that he's pushing Disney to release this movie on Ultra HD Blu-ray with both technologies. So will Guardians Vol. 2 be The Very First Disney UHD title??? Gosh, I have no idea, but I sure hope so.

At Dolby's booth at NAB they were somewhat bullish on Disney and 4k (probably since that studio loves themselves some Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos).

Maybe by this holiday season??

Definitely want a 4K copy of this with Dolby Atmos or DTS X.

It'll be Dolby Atmos on an eventual UHD release, especially since it has an Atmos theatrical mix.

Consumer DTS: X is now normally used for catalog titles they can't easily translate into scalable object based 3D surround as X has no positional objects, just a fixed 7.1.4 platform.

I think Disney will come in the end. I already see a lot of negative publicity around new release titles saying this won't be released in UHD. You can be a very big company, but if every release has something negative about it....

All is not lost, as there was some overlap from his past presentation at the Dolby Theatre in London, so watching the linked video I provided may be beneficial (basic points at the beginning with more esoteric pearls toward the later part of the presentation).

Really? See, to me it feels like a lot of people are looking back on the first film with rose-tinted glasses.

The original's a fantastic film, don't get me wrong, but for me the sequel is even better. It's quite frankly the funniest film I can remember seeing in the cinema for some time, and it's filled with thrills, genuinely meaningful character development and some incredible visuals.

Vol 2 is also the best-looking film I've seen in the cinema for some time, no doubt helped by the fact it was filmed in 4K.

With the spectacular colours and incredible sharpness of this film, it would undoubtedly look phenomenal on 4K UHD blu-ray.

We can only hope.

I haven't seen Vol 2 but yeah, someone in the main movie thread spoke gushingly about how the script for the first film was so "tight" compared to this, but Vol 1 was on telly the other day and it's choppy as heck. It's still a TON of fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it but in terms of pacing it's a bit of a car crash.

Just seen this last night in IMAX 3D.
It's not as fun as the first. But the experience was very good in IMAX 3D. And with all the otherworldly cosmic universe in the movie, I think this will look great in Dolby Vision.
