Here comes a shocker. They've lowered the price to $27.96, being competitive early on. Maybe Universal, Legendary, China, Amazon, et al are indeed conducting a 3D interest survey by way of this prerelease.

With fewer US blu ray 3Ds being released, it's nice to see Pacific Rim Uprising 3D blu ray showing for pre-order at the moment. When pre-orders disappear as we've seen with some new blu ray 3D movies in the past, that could mean they didn't get the amount they were hoping for to make it worth their effort. With factory production of discs, usually the more discs made, the less expensive they are to the distributor.

Or they could offer a limited edition run, as they did with a few recent titles. Those needed to be pre-ordered or they were sold out. That could be the case here too. Not sure.

This is no different from every 3D film. Every 3D film gets the same varying opinions, from "crap" to "amazing". I see it and judge for myself.

It's true. There are so many variables that affect one's 3D experience. Everything from equipment and projection to glasses and personal eyesight. Your Mileage May Vary no matter what film it is.

Just got back from an Imax 3D showing. Like others have said ,the 3D is not as good as the original but is impressive. It ranges from medium to medium-strong thru out.

The movie was a hot mess. While the Kaiju/Jaeger fights were fun the watch, the plot/sub-plots were a bit much.

I just came across this on wiki...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Rim_Uprising

Future

Pacific Rim Uprising is a springboard for a cinematic universe, where DeKnight revealed "If enough people show up to this, we've already talked about the plot of the third movie, and how the end of the third movie would expand the universe to a Star Wars/Star Trek-style [franchise or series] where you can go in many, many different directions... You can go main canon, you can go spin-offs, you can go one-offs. Yeah, that's the plan."[60] DeKnight also talked about the possibility of a crossover with the MonsterVerse,[61] as co-writer T.S. Nowlin is a member of its writers room.[62]

Honestly the plot of the first movie was so hole-filled anyway that, while this sequel was definitely rushed and overstuffed storywise, it didn't really feel much worse-written to me. Honestly I may have actually had more fun with this one than the original.

I find the original movie to be a real slog with terrible dialogue and characters, awful performances and a dull story. The 3D is excellent though so at least there's that.

Even when watching it on a home 3D set, opinions/settings/angles can vary, but just like any measurement, the strength of the 3D can be determined without opinions being involved. Similar to the amount of brightness/contrast/color/tint a TV is set at. With practice, close estimates can be made to actually help others know if a movie really does have strong 3D, medium or mild 3D. It depends on the experience of the 3D viewer and the measurements they're basing it on.

I managed to catch the last 3D Imax screening before they switched over to Ready Player One. Someone mentioned that it would be like watching life-size kaiju. I wish I could agree with that.

My expectations weren't high, but it started out better than I anticipated. For the first maybe 10 or 20 minutes I was enjoying the world they'd created and thinking about the potential. Somewhere along the line it shifted into a very contrived teen cadet training drama, full of silly conflict and characters apparently selected to give the film cross-global appeal.

The visual effects are on an epic scale, but, like most kaiju films, are not especially convincing. The shots are very detailed, but feel very artificial. The designs were impressive. There's quite a substantial amount of bot/monster footage. It's the main reason to see the film.

I found the 3D very average. It serves the film alright, but if there was anything jaw-droppingly stereoscopic, I missed it.

This is a film that can be commended for delivering on a very over-the-top premise, but which never transcends that premise and is unlikely to surpass expectations.

Wow, for only $2 more than the 3D (Amazon listing). Nice to see Universal pull their head out for a change (now just furnish more combo copies beyond the BB exclusive).

I remember not caring for the original when seeing it on cable flat, actually stopping it less than a third of the way through due to boredom.

But when starting out on home theater 3D was able to get an inexpensive used copy and it went from bummer to a blast. That was how much an impact the 3D had for me.

Read the mixed reviews here and on imdb. I'm tempted to preorder this too but don't want to get into the habit of buying a movie for the sake of the 3D if otherwise won't be enjoying the film.

I'm on the hedge with this one. HELP!!!!

For me, it's the opposite. With the ongoing 3D wind-down, I'm more inclined to blind buy. Thus, I'm bravely forging ahead with this sequel. Come join me.
