Always enjoyed this and wish it had gotten a sequel.

And oddly enough Gavin Rossdale of the band Bush as one of the bad guys. Such a weird casting. Not that he was bad. just a odd thing to see.

Also Michelle Monaghan's character had a bigger role in the movie. As she was sleeping with Constantine and they decided all that stuff wasn't needed. so it was cut. and she has that one line towards the end when the holy water sprays down on all the people.

This is the first filmed version of this story. It has a little of everything. Romance, danger, adventure and even an Ol' Man River moment. Well several moments actually. For a second I thought I would have to put it in my Musical category.

You don't cast Paul Robeson in a movie though and not have him sing. What a beautiful baritone. I've seen two other versions, the one in the 50's and I think the other one was made in the 80's. I prefer this earlier version actually though it's been a while since I've seen the other two.
