I was thinking about getting this, but I am a little confused by the 1.66 Aspect Ratio.
Can anyone tell me how the image on the BD compares to the DVD, which had an aspect ratio of 1.78. Is more image shown on the top and bottom of the frame, or has the BD been cropped a bit extra on the sides compared to the DVD? Any insights as to why a 1.66 aspect ratio was used here? |

The Blu-ray expands the image vertically from what was shown on DVD. The film was shot in Academy ratio and then masked to 1.75:1 for theaters. I'm not sure why Disney decided to go with 1.66:1 for the Blu-ray, but at least you know you're not losing anything.

I was worried that the 1.75 image might have been cropped to 1.66 for some completely ilogical reason, but if the image is simply being expanded for the home release, I can deal with a 1.66 instead of a 1.75. Thanks again! |

After "Old Yeller" and "Treasure Island", "Parent Trap (1961)" is the third DMC release I bought. I received it today and since there appear to exist no caps of this anywhere (or at least I didn't find any) I thought I'd share some.
This looks just lovely. There are some soft shots as well, but that's clearly the source. It's such a shame that Disney is selling these only as DMC exclusives... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

At last, review is up! https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-P...Blu-ray/12239/ Hopefully a review of In Search of the Castaways will be up soon. (I thought it looked great on Blu-ray) And hopefully Hayley Mills' other Disney films Summer Magic, The Moon-Spinners, and That Darn Cat! all come out on Blu-ray very soon!

This movie looks absolutely stunning in high definition. It was one of my absolute favorites as a kid, and seeing it in 1080p was a revelation when I saw it on a streaming service about a year ago. The price is certainly steep for non-members (and no extras whatsoever? Good grief), so I’m considering joining the club for this and a few other titles. I agree THAT DARN CAT! (the original, for god’s sake) needs a blu ray release (as well as THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS).

Does anyone know how I can get the 1998 remake here in the UK other than via eBay (which is crazy expensive especially after shipping) please? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks so much! PS I'm happy to do a swap if anyone wants a UK exclusive!

Agreed. This film is a crown jewel not only in Disney's history, but also U.S. film history. When you factor in the technology advancement, the exceptional script and the brilliant performances from every single cast member. This is one every film lover should own.

![]() It's too bad neither of The Parent Trap movies got a proper BD released and instead, only got released through DMC. These movies are sooo good! |

Those caps look really nice. Hopefully Disney keep releasing blus of their older live action catalog despite their continued push towards streaming.

Wow, what a crazy coincidence. After posting on this thread last weekend, I decided to just go for it and buy this movie on Vudu for $17.99. Since it's MA eligible, it will also get added to my other accounts as well. And since I looked at the pricing trend, it looks like this movie has been priced at $17.99 for almost a year, so I just went for it at that price. I mean, the movie is really good, so figured it was worth it. Well, guess what? Today, Vudu lowered the price to $9.99. I cannot believe after all this time, Vudu decides to lower the price right after I bought it. I think Vudu did this on purpose to punish me.

It definitely has to be superior because the quality of the HD video on Vudu, MA, GooglePlay, etc. all look like they are upconverted SD scans. Doesn't look like real HD. It was kind of disappointing, if you ask me.

The reviews of the Blu-ray seem pretty solid PQ wise, except for optical composite effects showing two Haley Mills in the same shot. The audio, like many Disney titles of that era, is a bit on the thin side, but it is lossless.

As an alternate -- D+ Trial is free for 7 days and you can sample all manners of movies.
17.99 will pay for nearly 3 months. If you're going to pay for a Digital copy, I just as soon have Disney Plus. And I'm probably the biggest DMC supporter in these parts, but if I'm not going to have the disc I'd go for rental volume with at least the same quality of the Digital anyway. I'm not morally opposed to getting a Digital license but pretty much more than $2-3 for a movie or $5-7 for TV Series is my limit for something I can't put on my shelf or sell the next day if I want to do it.
