It's like the people making the home versions are using a cheap soundbar or something for testing.
Unfortunately we've seen a similar trend in music over the last decade or so, with mixing and mastering catering to the lowest comment denominator (cheap earbuds, cheap bluetooth speakers, even phone speakers).

If everyone who complained about this issue on these forums also passed their complaints onto Disney, there'd be a slightly better chance of getting some sort of response.

This is why Transformers: The Last Knight had VAR on all the home video releases, because the VAR was on the DCP.

If the regular DCP is 2.39:1, then that's how the Russos want the film to look. They may be praising the IMAX AR in interviews, but that's likely because Disney want people to pay the big bucks to see the film in IMAX due to their distribution deal with IMAX.

However, not even the 3D Blu-Ray releases of Beauty and the Beast and Pirates 5 got the IMAX AR so who knows what will happen with Infinity War. I'm guessing it'll be 2.39:1 across all releases. The IMAX AR feels like a Disney mandate to me. If Solo and Ant-Man & The Wasp also get IMAX AR, I'll be more inclined to feel it's definitely the case.
Disney aren't Marvel. They may own them but they're not them, if that makes sense, and Marvel are making some (but not all) of their own decisions when it comes to their movies on home media. Hence the continuing usage of the "IMAX" AR on their 3D discs while Disney steadfastly refuse to do this on their 'in house' movies. I see no reason why the 3D Blu-rays of IW will buck that trend.

personally and I feel other odd in stating this, as I generally side with 'original theatrical' presentations, but having the full image to make us of 4K picture quality on home theater televisions and less letterboxing would be an incentive for some to buy and swing over to the new medium.

The best option would be to offer the IMAX AR as a store exclusive or something, the same way Disney could offer non-FUBAR'd audio in addition to their standard "Optimized for your iPhone" mixes. But these suggestions just make too much sense.

Previous Marvel films only had 1.85:1 in IMAX for select scenes and not the entire film (not counting Avengers and Ant-Man which were always intended to be in 1.85:1). This is the first Marvel film where IMAX showings will have the entire film in 1.85:1 whereas the regular DCP will have the entire film in 2.39:1. It's unknown territory for Marvel on home media. Even on the previous 3D releases, the majority of the film is still 2.39:1. It's still a mystery which Marvel will prioritise for the entire film on 3D Blu-Ray; the "IMAX" AR or the actual intended aspect ratio.

I don't see what difference it makes: it's still an exclusive IMAX version no matter if it's one scene in 1.90 like in Civil War, back-and-forth-back-and-forth throughout the movie like in Doctor Strange, or the entire thing as with Infinity War.

I think it does make a difference. It’s one thing to have 1.90 on home video on select sequences. It’s another for the entire film. We know previous films that have been screened entirely in 1.90 in IMAX (Beauty and the Beast, Pirates 5, Blade Runner 2049) did not release their 1.90 aspect ratios on any home release. I don’t know if Marvel would go as far as to have the film in a completely different aspect ratio for the entire film on one format. It’s not a sure thing. Yeah, the 3D *might* have the 1.90, but it’s not set in stone.

Since the Russo's allegedly fought hard to film the entire film in IMAX cameras, I hope they fight just as hard as Gunn did to get the IMAX version of IW released on physical media.

in Disney Home Video's mind 3D is dead, so why not make the 'IMAX' version the UHD version, you have the bluray as the 'theatrical' 2.39 framing.

Most "IMAX" films didn't get an expanded release of any form on home media because, for the most part, they're just sops to the marketing power of those four letters in the theatrical arena and weren't truly shot to take advantage of the format. (Ask Roger Deakins what he thinks about IMAX, heh.)

And despite all the waffle about the Russos using the IMAX'ed Alexa 65 cameras on IW I think that it also comes under that "marketing" bracket for sure, but I just don't see Marvel changing their 3D M.O. now as it's become the default position for their 3D Blu-rays e.g. Guardians 1 & 2, Doc Strange, Thor 3, Civil War. The only thing that would sway it IMO is not the studio but if the Russos were to specifically request that all home versions be in fixed 'scope.

This is the first movie of it's kind. So you really can't compare it to previous releases.

would that decision be with Marvel Studios or Disney? The latter seems very dictatorial with how the movie's is released to the paying masses on home video form. Wish Marvel and Pixar would get final say on their home video transfers, because the UHD's lately haven't 'sounded' all that great.

And this post reminds me to stop reading this thread soon as someone around here will make an effort to spoil the details.

The reason I'm starting to doubt we get an Imax version is I'm not seeing a lot of hype or importance in seeing this in Imax vs the release of Dunkirk.
I remember seeing all kinds of articles before Dunkirik's release, basically calling you an a$$hole if you diddn't see it in Imax.

Haven't been to the Infinity War movie thread in months, but a headline on Google News just spoiled something pretty big. Nowhere is safe.

Oh, that’s going to happen immediately. My tickets are for Sunday and I’m 100% sure the movie will be spoiled here by then. Today’s the last day I come near this place.
