Apparently, the cover artwork for Aircraft Carrier was somewhat inspired by the one for the PS2 game Ace Combat 5 but would have looked too derivative with another F-14 Tomcat on it.

Interestingly. the timing of the release of Aircraft Carrier (wow, preordering at Amazon is now possible two days ahead of the release) follows the recent release of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

While the game features an "airshow mode" with the PSVR aboard an aircraft carrier, I'll nevertheless prefer the real thing and Aircraft Carrier will be my ticket.

Thanks for reminding me about the Ace Combat games I am a massive Top Gun fan but have never played a single Ace Combat game.

If you're into aircraft carriers and this wasn't enough 4K aircraft carrier action to satiate your obsession, I highly recommend picking up The Flying Clipper and The Final Countdown. They both have some very nice and authentic aircraft carrier footage.

How was it overall for a buy? Is there top gun plane take off type scenes with full audio? Stuff like that? I read mixed reviews?

Was the fighter pilot one better?

I still strongly prefer a 3D Blu-ray release for Aircraft Carrier as a German one existed for Fighter Pilot in 3D:



(although, unlike Aircraft Carrier - shot in 3D - it was a 2D>3D conversion with some issues)

The cover of UHD BD double pack is a strange beast, as Fighter Pilot revolves around the F-15 Strike Eagle, so this one should have been featured on the cover.

- thanks for the tip! - I seem unable to locate the corresponding video disc. All I find is a German film on a sailing ship from 1962.

Update: A friend just notified me that the above US Navy short film is part of the German sailing ship film. A member of the sailing ship got ill and the nearest medical facility turned out to the USS Shangri-La (CVA-38). At the occasion the German film crew got that beautiful footage.

Yes, a 4K UHD disc and a BD disc, each with both programs in each format; a great deal!

I agree. I have one of those at home. I have a Blu-Ray disc with two IMAX documentaries on that disc. "Cosmic Voyage" comes first, followed by "Destiny In Space".
