Pretty much as much as any IMAX movie can be. Only like 43 minutes long, real life, it shows an overview of RIMPAC which is a military exercise that involves most of the nations from the RIM of the PACific. Wish they included the 3D version of this.

FINALLY!!!

The IMAX film I consider to be the (true) IMAX genre's "swan song" becomes available as a physical disc.

"Rarely has there been a topic so visually suited and compelling for IMAX®." I wholeheartedly concur!

Frankly, I had lost hope and was afraid it might become a streaming-only content, so thumbs up to SHOUT!

I'm just a little bit disappointed that the standard Blu-ray that's part of the set is not 3D according to the (preliminary?) 4K UHD cover.

That's quite a pity considering that the exclusive aircraft carrier footage was shot in real 3D to provide mundanes such as myself with the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get 'aboard' an aircraft carrier.

http://www.stephenlow.com/project/aircraft-carrier/

(perhaps SHOUT! factory could look into this option prior to the February release... please!)

As I'm residing outside the US (didn't even get the chance to watch Aircraft Carrier in a local IMAX), the UHD BD regional coding "A" (or is that limited to the standard Blu-ray disc?) will force me to watch the standard Blu-ray only with my regional code free BD player.

If I can't watch the UHD BD, the standard Blu-ray disc in 3D would really, really make my day.

UHD is a region free format so that will be referring to the included Blu-ray.

I'm surprised the Army hasn't made one of these. I mean the Marines did.

The Army just isn't interested in that sort of thing and they don't need it, so it's not something they will ever attempt to do. The Marines depend heavily on favorable, apologetic-style propaganda for recruiting purposes and that's exactly what the purpose of that project was.

I just cannot believe Amazon.com hasn't listed it for preorder, yet, it's only a week from now.

I've about had it, went to Amazon Canada and pre-ordered it there, almost seems as if Canadians still have a soft spot in their hearts for traditional IMAX films, but then again, IMAX was created by a Canadian company.

Actually the Army did and in 3-D no less - U.S. Soldiers 3D: Voll. 2 Army. Vol. 1 is entitled U.S. Soldiers 3D: Vol.1 Marines.

Oh wow, what a FAIL of a cover that is!! On a documentary about the Navy, they show an F-35B! Doesn't inspire confidence in the quality and accuarcy of the documentary...

You do realize the U.S. Navy is the largest customer receiving F-35C carrier variant of this aircraft, right? And the Marines are getting the F-35B and will operate them off U.S. Navy Amphibious Assault Ships?

No shit; I worked on them! You stated exactly what I'm saying; a Marine F-35B has no business on a Navy aircraft carrier documentary! Amphibious assault ships are not aircraft carriers and are not the subject of this documentary.

You do realize cover art is not made by the production company doing the documentary, right? This is like nerd rage level irrelevant nitpicking lol

I hope this is more to your liking:

Apparently, the cover artwork for Aircraft Carrier was somewhat inspired by the one for the PS2 game Ace Combat 5 but would have looked too derivative with another F-14 Tomcat on it.

Interestingly. the timing of the release of Aircraft Carrier (wow, preordering at Amazon is now possible two days ahead of the release) follows the recent release of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

While the game features an "airshow mode" with the PSVR aboard an aircraft carrier, I'll nevertheless prefer the real thing and Aircraft Carrier will be my ticket.

Bummed they chose the Reagan. Would have been real neat to see my old boat in a documentary like this.

Will still be picking it up regardless.

That's at least authentic, it's just way out of date for this documentary. The F-14 was retired in 2007, and the F-4... WAYYY too old. The modex on the F-14 is also wrong; there no such thing as a modex with leading zeros. Kinda sad that a cheap arcadey flight game got it more right than a documentary show...

Well that's just it.
They're going to show the newest stuff so the doc isn't immediately out of date.
