Both James Spader and Robert Downey jr are in the film and I've been a fan of both especially Spader but both became great actors so this is an early look into the start of their careers. It was a good but not great movie and I own the bluray and the digital but I just have a soft spot for the film. It's a decent teen movie but not in the league of the John Hughes films or Can't Buy Me Love and Just One Of The Guys. Also I've been following Kim Richards career and besides Nanny I loved Escape and Return to Witch Mountain. Thought it was cool that she was in Race To Witch Mountain along with Ike Eisenmann. and then later on to learn of her connection to Paris Hilton. I even watched some episodes of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills but felt really bad for Kim's decline. |

No need to justify your enjoyment of this or any film. Everyone's entitled to their opinions, I just happen to strongly disagree with that of the poster you're quoting. I don't know what he was expecting from a film called Tuff Turf but this was an excellent, and highly enjoyable (IMO, of course) teen revenge flick - one of the better ones of the 80's. A fun film with good performances. BTW, it would be unfair to compare this film to John Hughes movies. Tuff Turf is an entirely different genre.

To me, it's a fun, high school movie of its time. One I could relate to and enjoy eating snacks while pausing the VHS to see my crush of the moment. Lots of actors to relate to and see how they have grown, with tunes to enjoy while cheering for the underdog. Sometimes you just need a movie like that either at the moment or now many years later to remember a simpler time when you could appreciate the memories, the time and the moment.
If this one doesn't do it for you, I'm sure there is one for you. But for me and the few, this one is one those and I'm glad I have it. |

I'm a huge fan of 80s cinema and somehow missed this film until now. After going through a string of other previously unseen 80s movies that were mostly disappointing, this one hit the mark. Great cast, fun setting, and interesting plot elements. It was fun to see Spader as an 80s movie hero for a change, and he and Downey Jr. are a great pair. Kim Richards also brings a terrific presence, aside from being drop dead gorgeous. I wish she'd been in more flicks!
Sure, this movie has spots of self-indulgence and melodrama at times, but it's a whole lot of fun at the end of the day. Highly recommended for other 80s film aficionados. I will also second some of the other comments here and recommend "The New Kids" as an excellent counterpart. |

Aside from Kim Richards, Olivia Barish was the other cutie in the movie. She doesn’t get much screen time, but she’s a scene stealer.
It’s a decent movie, not great but very generic. Spader, Richards and Downey Jr. are good. The music is good. Richards’ double for the ridiculous Flashdance scenes is obvious. Totally different body type and pretty bad wig. |

Did this film go OOP? I can't find it on KL's website and it's like $65 on Amazon lol, so I am assuming it is...

The Lakeshore stuff, which includes Tuff Turf (a longtime personal favorite), seems to be in limbo at the moment. Arrow is still releasing select titles from them but a good chunk of films are still MIA or stuck on DVDs or old Blu-rays. It's a shame because there's a lot of movies I'd love to see get 4Ks:
C.H.U.D. I misplaced my Integral cut Blu so I'll have to re-purchase but maybe I should hold out for a potential future 4K The House films. Received German 4Ks but hard to tell if they're legit and/or worth the eBay prices The Stuff Vamp (freaking love this film so much) Return to Horror High. Where the heck is this? The Philadelphia Experiment. Weirdly MIA in the US Breaking All the Rules. Pretty sure I'm forgetting some. |

I saw this once, looked like kids from Beverly Hills playing gang dress up, I don't miss this genre at all from back then. It's wild when these Kino discs go OOP suddently, then they cost $60+. When it happened to Miracle Beach I sold instantly. Seems like the same thing happened to No Retreat, No Surrender recently.

I discovered this one about 10 years ago while going through Spader's list of movies on IMDB, originally picking it up on DVD. The Kino BD is top notch btw.
As for the film; perfect it is not. It's one of those films where you either like it or you don't (don't think it'll grow on you with time). For me there is something charming about its roughness and its being all over the place. I can see why it wouldn't work for others though. |

Murder by Phone also no Blu-Ray and only been released on VHS Pin Curfew Only one of these titles has gotten released on Blu-Ray most of them being in Europe, and the rest of them have never been released on Blu-Ray whatsoever. I'm honestly surprised Body Rock doesn't have a Blu-Ray yet that film rocks, and is a lot of fun. |

The 80's gang was always very odd - multi-racial, and dressed in MTV style fashions (look at the gang in MJ's 'Beat It'). Having said that... I do kind of miss them... there was something comforting about a world in which you just needed a headband and some fingerless gloves to be a gang member.

I have this on my Wishlist. It doesn't have the warning about it being unavailable, but the page for the Blu-ray is gone. I don't understand why this going OOP is not mentioned in either of the major Kino threads. If I knew it was about to go OOP I would've bought it.
