This reminds me of when I made that post a couple of years back about a potential Criterion release...

Jack Nicholson will personally deliver it by chopping down your front door with an axe

The longer cut is better anyway. Don't let anyone tell you different.

The Australian Blu-ray is the US cut, I believe.

This calls for a celebration. A fitting celebration, like this cerebral short film that honors the original with the respect and dignity that it has earned over the years.

Honestly though, this is exciting news. I hope we get both cuts. In 4k.

Very, very cool. This is a title I've been wanting and was going to watch the BD soon, but will now just wait. Looking forward to more Kubrick.

Wait...I thought the format is about to die?

This is a title I've always meant to get and never have... but that will change with this edition. Ah, I cannot wait! One of my favorite books and movies!

DAY. ONE.

I'm hoping they got Clockwork Orange lined-up as well, that already has a 4k WB's been sitting on for quite awhile.

I think it's more representative of Jack's slow descent into madness so the longer cut I feel really works in that regard.

That being said, I do hope both cuts are included although I have my doubts.

Yeah each to their own and all that but I personally hated it. The Shining is one of my favourite films and I was completely oblivious to the fact that there was a longer cut until last year. I must have seen the film 30 times, first when I was about 10 years old and I've been able to repeat view it ever since. Not something I can do with many other films. So I guess the EU cut is quite ingrained on me and when I watched the longer cut last year I just found the extra scenes completely unnecessary. It explains far too much and I've always liked the ambiguity of the shorter EU version.

“according to the German site 4kfilme.de, but does not cite the sources, Warner Bros. He would be working on the Ultra HD Blu-ray of the Shining, the classic horror of Stanley Kubrick of 1980 with Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall who seems to be coming in this new version in 4k-HDR on the American market on October 2. At the moment there are no further technical details, but it seems that the technicians Warner are engaged in this period in the work of remastering, which we hope will be up to that done on other classics Warner reproposed in UHD as 2001: Space Odyssey and Blade Runner – The Final Cut.”

Hopefully they get the tennis ball and toy trucks the right color this time!

Would also like both cuts, but I'll probably end up importing the UK disc if they don't. Have they ever released the US version in Europe? Or vice versa? I wonder if there could be a weird legal reason preventing them from doing so.
