I was waiting desperately for the Trek films on 4K UHD.

Especially I - I too hope we will get both cuts (Theatrical and Director's Edition).

And please II-X have to follow in the near future!

I also like the TC of "The Motion Picture" very much.

Absolutely day 1 buy if this happens, and for all the remaining Trek films.

A boiled potato is just OK. At some point in time it may have represented the Epitome of the Culinary-Art, but EVENTUALLY, Someone made Baked-Potato w/ cheese + Bacon Bits.

BPCBB, is not unlike Boiled Potato, it's still got potato, but BPCBB is a much more refined iteration.

TOS was the beginning for some ideas, it has the Potato, but TNG is truly Next Level w/ all the Toppings.

We give TOS the credit for being First, but it is certainly NOT the best representation or the most tasty iteration of the Potato Arts.

It's the same if we compare Pocahontas to Avatar. If you just handed the 2 movies to someone, without telling them which one came out first, no one would choose to watch Pocahontas, because that story in that presentation is inferior to Avatar.

Originality is for the record books, Presentation is for your eyes. Every trek that followed TOS had equivalent story elements/ plot/ politics, but they all had much better presentation of those ideas.

TOS is a part of tv history. It represented all that was the imagination of space travel and science fiction of the 60's.. The acting was corny, and the stages looked fake but then so did all the big western tv shows that were made back in the day. The restoration of TOS is incredible, it's one helluva potato...lol

If done the same way, the 4K release would be quite a treat. Got my fingers crossed....

All plot elements of TOS are rehashed in the later series, but paced better and more fluid.

TOS is fine, but to say that it's better than TNG or any later iterations is ridiculous.

+1 on that. Im no Trekkie but TOS is the best Star Trek series no question. TNG is good - in places - but sometimes its downright cringey and...Wesley .

How the hell did they manage that?! I thought they re-edited the film from the ground up to pick up the pace, including taking out HUGE swathes of the V'Ger Interior lightshow sequence? You've bowled me over with that one!

If you are thinking it's going to look more like trek 09 and not veer towards superman the movie you may be let down a little.

I'm happy they are finally considering this but I would love for them to go all out and do a TNG style remaster.

I find most of TNG actually boring. There of course some major highlights throughout the entire series run, but for the most part I think it's pretty dull. I even prefer a lot of DS9 over TNG. But when it comes down to it, TOS is my Star Trek and the one that matters most.

Right. That’s what the people on the panel said and that’s what Bill Hunt reported that the people on the panel said. You’re trying way too hard.

I was watching ST:TMP on BD this morning.

I thought at the end, VGER spat back out that Star Fleet space station.

But when watching it today (for first time in years), there was no mention of it.

They said at the end there were 'no casualties', what about all those people?

As I recall, Spock saw the space station in VGER's visual memory bank.

Or did the movie just suggest it was destroyed when the signal cut out?

They were refering to crew members of the Enterprise.
Cause they knew Ilia and Decker had transformed so they were reporting them as "missing".

Of course in the movie were casualties.
The Klingons, the Starfleet Culcan with the Transporter accident and of course the people on the space station.

Yep - Kirk was giving Starfleet an update of the Enterprise mission only. Not the events that happened earlier.

I wouldn't get my hopes up yet, considering the "discussions" over an HD release of the Director's Edition have apparently been going on for years. From the same guy in 2017:
Quote:
There is only one reason that Star Trek: The Motion Picture–The Director's Edition is not out on Blu-Ray yet. Paramount has yet to green light the project. We've had some discussions, and it'll happen, the only question is when are we going to go ahead with it.

A discussion is not like an official announcement of a 4K release. I'm not going to get too excited until that announcement has been made.

I wish I could figure out what is (or isn't) going on in the heads of these people at Paramount. Star Trek should have been their top priority during the move to UHD. They're just sitting on a goldmine. What hobbyist with an interest in ST wouldn't want to upgrade those atrocious BDs?

Personally, I would be fine with the theatrical cut of TMP, since I have no faith in Paramount plunking down a single penny to re-render the fx shots for 4K.

It breaks my heart the lack of respect Paramount has for this franchise, and I'm just a casual fan at best.
