I hate this term. It automatically insinuates that more fluid motion = bad.

Oh the horror it'll be for fans to convert them back to 48fps

I'll never understand why people would want films to look like anything else but film. To each his own ofcourse, but not me.

And I don't care these were originally done in HFR.

24p or no sale.

Are these films, though? They were shot and predominantly presented digitally.

It’s unfortunate this trilogy ended up being a bloated mess, in not adhering to the story and tone of the book. I was not impressed with The Hobbiteesses at all. Not even sure I’ll buy this in UHD.

On the other hand, LOTR’s are day one.

I thought the first one did a terrific job of keeping to the tone and spirit of the book, even adhering to the plot to a certain degree, as it was always meant to. It's the next two where they really derailed from the source text, taking in the new stuff, Appendices etc.

Saw the first two movies in HFR Imax 3D, was a really interesting experience. Like some others have said, its not quite the soap opera effect although that is the easiest comparison. It initially was jarring but as the movie went on you got used to it.

I liked a lot of aspects of the first two movies (casting was on point)...the third movie I really didn't like and it sort of soured the first two for me. Somewhere in those 3 movies there are 2 really solid movies. I'm not a huge LOTR book fan by any means, but I do love The Hobbit and felt like Jackson lost the spirit of it in his attempt to expand things.

Glad this is out for those who really like these though. I always thought Unexpected Journey was one of the best looking Blu-rays I've seen, gorgeous disc.

I wouldn’t be against a well edited four hour “epic” that rearranged and streamlined the trilogy.

Five Armies is a really ugly movie, and I say that as someone who thoroughly enjoys all three (EE) Hobbit movies. It's full of bloom and sharpened to hell. I'll be interested to see how it looks in 4K.

Looking forward to this (and LOTR)! I'm one of the few who actually likes this trilogy a bit more than the LOTR one.

Don't care.

I had the misfortunate of having seen Five Armies in HFR 3D. It felt like watching a 2,5 hour behind the scenes special. Most horrible cinema experience ever.

Then I got the 3D Blu-ray and watched it at home, what a revelation that was.

That "shite" look can be undone and corrected by having it in 24p.

I won't be buying these. I don't like Video games, especially those where I don't get to play.

I did an edit that broke them into two movies. First was a hair over three hours, took the story up through the Company leaving Erebor and Gandalf’s confrontation with Sauron. Second movie was the rest of the story, about 2.5 hours. Tried to keep it as close to the book as I could and it works. I just like the Appendices stuff that Jackson added. Said it before but I was never too keen on The Hobbit book so I’m glad they fleshed it out.

Not a surprise really.

The first was entirely from what they’d shot in principal photography while the second and third had stuff from the pickups on 2013 which were impacted by studio demands (the most major being the addition of the love triangle) and changes to the story due to cast members being unavailable (Alfrid only has a big role in the third film because Stephen Fry was no longer available, hence why his character is killed off in the first ten minutes).
