I've watched that movie once. Basically beating Jesus for 2 hours pretty much non stop. How is that interesting or passionate I don't get. Hate cliches, but there's no character develpment so to speak, no plot, nothing, just beating and Jews asking to crucify Jesus.
Movie sucked and I won't buy it on BD.

well, just to help you get it. the passion was that of Jesus bearing all of the sins of mankind while He was dying on the cross. but to each his own is what i believe

Yeah, that's the popular belief in general about Jesus. If that was missing from the movie too then it'd be 2 hour long torture movie. I doubt it'd make that much money.
Other than that to get that idea across did we really need to watch beating and whipping for 2+ hours?
For a change, I'd recommend to watch South Park episode "The Passion of the Jew". IMHO nails it perfectly.

Youtube clip

Don't flame me, I'm entitled to an opinion.
The film is not anti-semetic. The Romans come out looking the worst.

I agree that it was more brutal than was necessary. Im congregations were taking kids to see this movie. I wouldn't have done that. The fact that it was shot brilliantly and subtitles makes it a good movie. But my opinion is that THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD is a better movie.

If South Park's take on it was added as a special feature I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Thats a classic South Park Episode.

To the people who keep saying the movie is too brutal, have you actually read the bible? It's pretty hardcore stuff.

What do you want, a G-rated crucifixion? That's a conundrum if i've ever seen one? Capital murder of the messiah on cinematic display, but only if it's suitable for the whole family!! Think about it for a minute. Let it simmer in your noggins.

You guys are hilarious!! Are any of you related to Jack Thompson?

Man, I went to watch this porn movie, but gosh, I really wish they toned down the sex scenes and stuff. It was like the entire movie was about naked people romping around.

Here's a good article for those who are interested, explaining exactly what's anti-semitic about it.

I guess you're right, because according to the bible, there wasn't a drop of blood spilled while Jesus was crucified.

I would very much like to own the latest version of POTC on Blu-ray -- you know, the one full of commentaries and extras.

Mel's take on the story is highly unique and powerful, and I'd be proud to own it.

Even though I'm also an avid Philip Pullman fan.

Go figure.

You're right. Perhaps when Dakota Fanning does another movie like Hounddog, the rpe scene between her and her step-father should be shown in graphic and explicit detail so the audience truly gets the point of what's going on.

Not everyone is into the trend of keeping the camera focused on all the gorey details as they're happening. I'm not saying there can't be blood, but the visible ripping and tearing of the flesh so the muscles are exposed...you don't need to see that to get the point. (Granted, I have NOT seen the film yet but I'm going by what I was told by everyone who has).

The 'apparatus' in Se7en is made more sinister because it's flashed only for a second on screen. Often times, less is more.

I wonder if we can use that posting technique on AVS to get away with stuff. It's not like they wouldn't understand it anyway, they were backwards enough to buy into HD DVD.

Cool, thanks. That's a good article. I don't agree with her ascertation that the Jews are automatically portrayed as villians by Christianity in general, but I totally understand that some people will use whatever is available to go after people or a people they despise. So therefore, I can understand the concern the film might raise. But most Christians don't look at Jews as "Christ Killers", or at least none that I know.

Anyway, this could go way off topic fast and I don't want to help it along so thanks for the article, it's what I was looking to find out.

My thoughts are this. It was a great movie. One that I hope they will do right if it ever is put on Blu. Jesus died for all of us and it was brutal. I think Mel is great for doing a movie like this. It will be the top selling blu ray if it comes out I bet.

I will have to passionately pass on it. I am just not religous enough to sit through that again. Apacalipto is an excelent Blu-ray movie though.

Well I think Christains in the US don't think of jews as Christ killers but if you show that movie in the Balkans and you might entice violence against Jews. I guess thats why I am not a bealiever theres to much violence in the world commited in the name of God.

I agree...I really don't think I want to see the high res detail of mangled flesh etc. I had a hard time watching it at the theater. Its not the kind of movie you'd say has replayability.

Default passion in blu

The standard DVD version is quite sharp. I can't imagine how incredible the Blu ray version would look.

FYI...a news article appearing shortly after the movie hit theaters.

FWIW, there is a difference between religious teaching and religious practice. One great book is Thomas Merton's Faith and Violence.
