Yeah, I know. :/ Couldn't they be released in HFR digitally? Would be something, at least.

Maybe it's the purist in me but I just couldn't get into it. I felt the HFR was just way distracting for me. To each his own.

You computer's video processing would have to support it... Not mention every steaming platform/provider's own specs would need to be met, and none of them are set up for 48fps.

The market just too limited.

They could also do a regular PAL speedup to 50 fps, though it would most likely lead to major compability issues in North America.

Vicom Japan have to date released ten 4K UHD discs with 60 fps video (as far as I know). These are demo/documentary/travelling material. Most are an hour long with relaxing music and beautiful tracking shots over wonderous locations or city scyscrapers, trains etc.

They are good for testing display quality/demoing and testing that your hdmi-cables are up to full 4K60p without failing.

The special edition of Lichtmond: The Journey apparently includes a 60fps disc. The Amazon.de listing states the following:

Quote:
4K UHD Bonus Disc - technische Daten:
- BD 66
- 3840 x 2160 / 60 & 24p 4K UHD

Thanks for the info xenago

Beware that the 4K UHD disc is the Bonus disc. It contains five songs from two previous albums, and the running time is only ~24 minutes.

Code:
4K UHD Bonus Blu-ray (4K 60fps and 4K 24fps) :

01. Wheel of Time (~05:16) (From album: 'Lichtmond 3: Days Of Eternity')
02. Solar Dust Part 1 (~02:22) (From album: 'Lichtmond 2: Universe Of Light')
03. Solar Dust Part 2 (~04:17) (From album: 'Lichtmond 2: Universe Of Light')
04. Soul Affinity (~05:21) (From album: 'Lichtmond 2: Universe Of Light')
05. Distant Dream (~06:34) (From album: 'Lichtmond 2: Universe Of Light')

~24 minute Total Running Time

.
To expand on this further, having finally acquired this release myself:

* The ~18 minute long main title is presented in 23.976fps

* Only ~8.5 minutes I can find on the UHD disc are presented in 60fps

* About 3 of those minutes are repeated just with a different song, so it's more like 5 minutes total encoded in 60fps

* I cannot prove this, but I will say that it is probably interpolated to 60fps because it has the telltale signs: inconsistent framerate, blurry motion, artifacts around certain objects...

Here are some screenshots - check out the stars to really see the interpolation effect (there is some image compression and scaling so it looks a lot better in full quality, but you'll get the idea):

In the moments where it works, it is actually quite interesting to look at, but in a '2000s pc game cutscene' sort of way lol.

Are there any updates of 4K Blu-rays in HFR? I can't find a list anywhere. Maybe someone can list every HFR Blu-Ray that was released so far including the Japan and further releases.

1955 Oklahoma! (Blu-Ray)(70mm Todd-AO 30 fps)(1080p-30fps in 60i container)
Tip: If you really want to test and max the bandwith of your HDMI cabels and setup; Check out the Japanese Vicom-release 'Miyako Island 4K (VUB-5707)'. It's the only title I know that contain both HDR 4K 60fps video *and* a maxed out lossless PCM audio-track w/5.1ch 24-bit 192kz. You'll soon find out if your cables are really meeting their rated spec or not.

At over £40.00 minus delivery and taxes it's sadly too expensive

I found Gemini Man was alright. I got used to the 60fps and it made the action more dynamic. Haven't found a good enough deal on Billy Lynn yet. Seems to be a good amount pricier here than Gemini Man.

I've ordered the Namibia 4K Blu-ray. The HDR and 50fps compelled me to take a shot at it. There are a number of German documentaries on 4K Blu-ray, but most of them are in SDR. Many have an English audio track in addition to German.

I found another HFR title. The 2015 Opera conducted by Ettinger;
Mozart: Le Nozze di Figaro (2015) (upc: 0880242729552)

Note that the info on this release on Blu-Ray.com is wrong. It's Native 4K and not upscaled as claimed. It does not contain HDR10, it's standard Rec.709. The video looks beautiful and is encoded in 2160p 50 fps. The audio is 24-bit 5.0 at 96kH. There's also a Stereo PCM track at 96kH. Reccomended for people who loves operas.

Thanks for the list. I saw The Hobbit at 48fps in the theater and hated the look, but I still find the technology fascinating nonetheless. For me, there's a big difference between committing to a HFR experience in the theater that's not working, versus having the option at home, along with a standard 24fps version. The stakes feel lower at home, and I'm more open to trying a different experience.

All that is to say that I actually would love to see more HFR releases on blu-ray or 4K. A big one for me would be Around The World In Eighty Days, the only other feature film shot in Todd-AO 30. I actually really like seeing Oklahoma at 30fps, because it's cool to be able to see a movie from that era in a more "realistic" native high frame rate. I'd also like to see remasters of the two Todd-AO promotional films that were released in 30fps on the Oklahoma disc, but only in standard definition.

As for recent movies, I would actually like to see The Hobbit trilogy at 48fps, since I only ever allowed myself to watch the first one in that format. Like I said, watching at home would be more enjoyable I think. That said, people above noted that it's not possible in current formats, and I can't say I feel a tremendous loss.

Other than that, I'd just kind of like to see filmmakers experiment with it more, even if it won't (and shouldn't) become the new standard. I think it could still be interesting for certain narrative movies, depending on the concept. It's not entirely the same thing, but I recently watched Jaws 3D on a Meta Quest, and I realized that I was quite enjoying the 3D effects, given the on-location shooting and the underwater photography. So something like that could maybe be fun in HFR. A trashy Hawaii Five-0/Magnum P.I. movie shot in HFR across all the Hawaiian islands perhaps? Could be fun!
