Die Hard is a title that is constantly re-released and repackaged on various formats, I would think that far more likely for UHD than Roger Rabbit.

I agree they aren't likely to delve very deep into back-catalog, but actually I never thought that would happen from the start of the UHD format. Some of the other studios and niche labels have already surprised me with their releases - which I guess opened the door to hoping for more catalog titles. Who knows what to make if this denial now, but it would still be shocking to not get huge box office stuff like Die Hard and Pirates.

Fake news. Disney is not moving forward with 4K catalogue titles and stopping all Blu-ray’s as well. They might throw you a bone with their cash cows such as Pirates of the Caribbean set in 2023 for 20th anniversary but they’ve never been big on catalogue titles. They also don’t care about them. They released Gross Pointe Blank for 15th anniversary on Blu-ray like 6 years after Blu came out with a crap transfer. They are also pausing on any catalogue titles in both 4K and Blu-ray which is why you can’t buy Broken Arrow, Speed, Crimson Tide our Enemy of the State.

Disney is not going to invest any money into remastering say Armageddon in 4K for physical media where only a handful of people will purchase it. Add that to the fact physical stores have been shrinking media space and others will follow. Universal stopped doing all physical releases laid off a lot of people and signed an agreement with WB to use their remastering and physical teams which is why Universal got a lot better with PQ and releases. Sony is doing releases because they have a dedicated team.

I don't think Disney will go too deep into the catalog. But I do think eventually they will release Fox essentials on UHD.

But this nothing new. I don't know how many times I can make that clear. And all it's done is provide fuel for the chronic worriers and also the 'physical media is dead, long live streaming!' types who are both reading into it only what they want to read.

The Universal and Warners joint venture doesn't even start until 2021, I think? So people like you need to give Universal far more credit, they've been doing all this recent goodness all on their lonesome. And besides, Warners have just laid off a LOAD of people, so...

Some of those people who for years have been saying Trek needs to get bought up by Disney may actually be sighing in relief over this. Hard to be happy with Paramount (just look at any TREK movie thread), but I guess it could be worse.

No. Absolutely no more gobbling up of established franchises, and other IP by Disney.

Scottishguy is correct, the Mouse is Palpatine at this point. Already possesses far more power than it needs and it's become corrupt with power.

Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. are entering into a North America ten-year joint venture with regard to their home entertainment arms. Separate from that deal, both studios are committing to license each other’s disc products in certain offshore markets.

I hope so - but they did a pretty bad job with the recent Star Wars 4K set as the OT and PT transfers were a tad dodgy. I want them to do Aliens and a few others but you just dont know what you'll get.

I both love and hate Disney as a company. Theyve provided us with some classic cartoons & films, some newer movies that are great and a decent streaming service. But, they tend to butcher disc releases and their handling of the new Star Wars films in general(rushed, too corporate, incoherent plots and no cohesion, etc) along with their crappy 4K efforts drive me crazy. Ugh.

Disney had nothing to do with the Star Wars transfers.

I got the first 6 films as individual releases, wonder if those 4k transfers are different.
