Fake news. Disney is not moving forward with 4K catalogue titles and stopping all Blu-ray’s as well. They might throw you a bone with their cash cows such as Pirates of the Caribbean set in 2023 for 20th anniversary but they’ve never been big on catalogue titles. They also don’t care about them. They released Gross Pointe Blank for 15th anniversary on Blu-ray like 6 years after Blu came out with a crap transfer. They are also pausing on any catalogue titles in both 4K and Blu-ray which is why you can’t buy Broken Arrow, Speed, Crimson Tide our Enemy of the State.
Disney is not going to invest any money into remastering say Armageddon in 4K for physical media where only a handful of people will purchase it. Add that to the fact physical stores have been shrinking media space and others will follow. Universal stopped doing all physical releases laid off a lot of people and signed an agreement with WB to use their remastering and physical teams which is why Universal got a lot better with PQ and releases. Sony is doing releases because they have a dedicated team. |
