Nothing. Has. Changed.
And their 'rebuttal' means **** all. They confirmed that they're not dropping 4K, yes, BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT THIS 'NEWS' WAS ABOUT. Only people who can't read thought that's what this was about. No. Major new movies will continue to be released by them on 4K (watch when Mulan '20 gets announced and people say "we did it, folks!" - ummm, nope) and we will still get catalogue animated titles for some of the remaining classics that are in the vault (we'll get the crumbs in Europe, unfortunately). But they hate supporting "old" live action catalogue on disc in general, that's not an 'insider' scoop but should be rather obvious to anyone with working eyes who's kept even the most cursory overview of Disnee's disc output over the last few years.
That we're getting Home Alone and Hocus Pocus on UHD at all is the anomaly of coursh, they are indeed perennially popular titles but why throw us those bones and then decide to close the door completely without even seeing how they perform, that's just bizarre. Covid gonna covid, sure, but as home video revenues were UP for the other major studios then it doesn't take a genius to see that there's money to be made. But the Mouse won't even wipe his arse with less than $10,000 which is why he's been so dismissive of live action catalogue stuff.
