They couldn't even bothered to charge. Treating it as a direct to dvd movie like in the 90s and 00s |

Damn, poor Pixar. Like everyone has said- so much hard work and care for it to essentially be treated as a direct-to-video product. I was looking forward to this one- I feel like it, along with Luca and Soul, would have been beautiful on the big screen in Dolby. I doubt Lightyear will be tossed to the wayside like this, but I was honestly looking forward to Seeing Red more, I think. Not that Lightyear looks bad at all, but this seems to have more of the classic Disney magic to it.

Not going to lie, but this seems like a bullshit move. Three Pixar films in a row? Really? I really wanted to take my daughter to see this in a theater, not watch it at home.

It is baffling.
Soul would have made bank now. Luca in normal times would clear 200. Soul would clear 300. This one looks strange. But they could make so much money. Pixar is such a big brand. They almost always make bank. Why throw it out for free! |

Disappointing perhaps, but from a business stance understandable. Soul and Luca did spectacular on Disney+ so it makes sense they would go this route. Pixar may be pissed but since they are wholly owned by Disney, they can't really do much.

Yeah but are they really THAT desperate for subscribers at this point? I feel like most people who want the service already have it so Disney is throwing theatrical money away for no good reason.

Honestly, I'm too surprised by this move. Encanto didn't do too well in theaters compared to other recent Disney animated films, but even that had the novelty of being a musical. Unless it's attached to an existing franchise, I don't think Disney thinks this films will make money (and to be fair, that seems to be the case sadly).
I was unimpressed by the trailer, more than I expected, but I know Pixar does a great job of not giving a lot away in the trailer, so I hope the film is good. |

It ain't so much about growing subscribers, it's also retaining them.
