Buying every single one. Menace has long been one of my favorite titles I wanted to see remastered. UHD now no less.

Why is everyone so convinced of an increased MSRP? They didn't change it when they added Blu-ray.

If I had to pick 5 other films from the existing catalog to get 4k discs, I would take:

The Night of the Hunter
All That Heaven Allows
Fanny and Alexander
A Matter of Life and Death
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg

Good list. I'll be upgrading Citizen Kane, Mulholland Dr., The Red Shoes and A Hard Day's Night. The Piano I will be getting blind, since it's been on my wishlist for a while.

You'll be getting the discs though right, and not rips?

Coming out in October on Blu-ray from them. If they were releasing it in 4K they would have waited. Could get a release from A24 in the same fashion they did with Midsommar at some point though.

Make that $79.99. 'Member, you're paying for the blu-ray, too.

There’s a reason I only picked up a handful of titles during last month’s sale and it’s anticipation for this!

Very exciting and welcoming news! Also about a week earlier than their typical monthly slate announcements.

My only qualms about this (reading through the announcement) is that they seem to be rolling the six titles out over the next few months. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but is it possible they’re only releasing one or two titles out of the six in the meantime (beginning in November that is) and holding off the rest in the coming months and new year?

ALSO, I’m really hoping they keep the same base price for the 4K titles ($39.99 regular) and perhaps making Blu-ray versions slightly cheaper at $29.99? With everything that’s happening nowadays, I don’t think they should make it more expensive than an already premium price, no?

Another 4K Blu-ray title I want from Criterion to release in both US and UK is the 1954 Godzilla.

The Piano is the first Miramax title in the collection since Chasing Amy, right?

That bodes well for other indies getting Miramax rights, unless someone else now has The Piano. Which was noticably absent from the Paramount Miramax reissues.

So I guess the only major boutique label that hasn't jumped on UHD is Eureka right?

Incredible news. I've ignored almost every Criterion release for two years waiting for them to finally join 4K. Now that they've done it, I shall reward them with renewed interest and the purchase of every one of their announced 4K releases. Bravo!

Prove I won't.

I will be ripping them (my discs) anyway. Partly because a lot of my shelves now look like this:

Tired of looking for boxes.

They've definitely released more Miramax titles since that old Chasing Amy DVD. I believe Double Life of Veronique and the first Chungking Express release have Miramax logos on them though they were probably licensed film whoever had the rights to the Miramax library at the time. The Piano would be the first since Paramount took over Miramax (if it is indeed still with Miramax).
