How can they expect us to go digital while they remove content we watch/play/listen?

Oh, and Google Stadia probably won't be around for too long due to the far superior competition. Those who spent $30-60 on games on the Stadia better play before it's gone forever.

I want to have ownership and control my movies, and I don't want to depend on the internet to access my collection. Besides, the A/V quality of discs are better. Anybody who says digital look and sound just as good as the physical media, they're in denial.

Amazon No-Rush Rewards and Vudu Disc-to-Digital have gone a long way towards popping my digital cherry. Previously, I only redeemed codes that came with discs. I also refuse to pay more than a few dollars for something I don't really own.

Still, I do have a good-sized digital collection. And I like the convenience. But I see digital as a complement / backup to my physical collection, not a replacement for it. I can't see ever going all digital. I'm into too much weird genre / foreign / cult stuff, as well as all the usual reasons (no real ownership, studios changing / removing things, etc.). And I don't want my movie watching to be at the mercy of the quality of internet service.

Currently, I would say I'm sitting at about 70% Physical and 30% digital. Though, I'm buying a lot more digitally during sales of movies I wouldn't traditionally buy on Blu-Ray/4K.

Can't beat the $2.99 Arrow Video sales for stuff I'm not willing to drop $40.00+ on for a physical copy.

It depends on your equipment. If you are watching on a 75 inch 4k TV, then you are right.

But if you are watching on a 50 inch 1080p TV, then my vudu HDX movie looks just as good a blu-ray.

Pretty darn close to 100% digital. I've kept certain 3D Blu-Ray movies that I know I'll watch at least a few more times, and I also have kept other movies and TV seasons on DVD/Blu-Ray that aren't available digitally yet. Probably at around 95% digital, 5% physical.

I hope no one who is getting rid of PhysicaL Media is throwing them away.

Non scary titles can go to VA Hospitals

https://www.soundandvision.com/conte...s-va-hospitals

My local second hand stores still accept all movies (inc VHS)

I wouldn't throw any away unless they were damaged but I would instantly throw out any that are damaged.
(Must clarify that ... a bent corner of the slip cover is not what I mean by damaged... I mean a disc that can't be played)

Same here. I only have one film on digital, and that's because it's never had a physical release and stars my silent film crush Janet Gaynor.

I switched to Kaleidescape early this year. They have most of the mainstream movies and tv on their digital store. Their older Premiere line products can play discs from their 320 disc changers. I have 4 disc changers and their new 72TB Terra server for a combined library of about 3000 titles. I rarely buy discs now.

I was intrigued by their product and watched a few youtube videos, Shane from Spare change tested them out. It looks cool and with files much larger than anything 4K Blu-Ray can hold they say it's truly the best quality for video & audio. If I remember correctly you download all your purchases so you don't actually stream anything that's why you need such large storage.

Picture and sound quality are on par with the discs. Maybe a handful of the titles have slightly larger file sizes. I wouldn’t call that the norm or a significant advantage.

I moved from Massachusetts to California. I had to squeeze the footprint of my approximately 5000 titles physical media library into a small rack. That’s why I made the move. Finding a movie to watch from my collection is a lot more simpler and enjoyable, I can bring any film from a disc or digital on to my screen within a second. I can add 9 additional zones and watch 10 different films simultaneously around my home. I can do all this without any compromise to sound and video quality.

FYI for anyone saying sound quality is the same you are fooling yourself. Audio quality streaming is not as good as physical media. Disc will be uncompressed at a higher bitrate for a better quality.

Discs are going the way of the Dodo no matter if you like it or not. You don't own a movie whether it's physical or digital. You own a copy or rights to view a copy. If you have something you love immensely, then a physical copy can be nice. But for random movies, digital is more efficient and doesn't turn your house into a Blockbuster store worthy of an episode of Hoarders. I have 650 digital movies. Never lost access to even one. You can't take it with you and your loved ones are more likely to be mad at you for leaving them a mess to deal with when you go, not gracious.

Maybe thin it out but I have to keep the essentials on disc (Lawrence of Arabia, Jaws, Indy, Godfather, etc etc etc)
You're not purchasing air. You're purchasing rights to watch a movie any time you want on numerous services. Same as PC gamers buying all digital. They are buying games, not air. That argument continues to get old and is stupid.
One one has shown a single instance where someone lost all their digital movies. It's fear mongering. I agree if you love something, then physical is great if you can find it. But digital is just better for most everything else.

Did you know that on Android you can watch an ISO file (of a BD/DVD) as is (I tested on the Kodi app)? That's pretty cool.
Delisted movies and games remain in your digital lockers. Purchasing a delisted item is an issue, but you don't lose access. When VUDU went down the other night, I switch to one of my many other providers to finish the movie I was watching. It's rare, but only a minor issue.

Sorry. I do respect your opinion. But I still think your buying AIR !!! Explain the resurgence of vinyl then. Even young people are getting into it.
