And I would say the film works better in BW than color. |

I’m sure it looks fine in B&W, but Dan Lausten’s cinematography and the gorgeous art direction and production design were clearly supposed to give this film a more extravagant look that stands out as different compared to the original film. Last edited by BluProofie; 01-23-2022 at 09:38 PM. |

I hope the disc comes with director's commentary. I was disappointed that Shape of Water didn't. On his previous films the commentary has been great and even made me appreciate them more. |

I watched it tonight on HBOMax, if anything it made me even more excited for the UHD. I was somewhat worried I'd be disappointed in this since I'm a fan of the original. It's both different and similar enough to that film to stand tall on its own feet. Looked great even in a SD online stream, can't wait to see and hear how great it is on UHD. |

As far as the movie, I thought it was pretty darn good, too. I really didn't want to be disappointed either, like I was on Last Night in Soho. But I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised at how good it is. |

I think the comparison with C'mon C'mon isn’t apt since it was predominantly shot using natural light and went for a completely different aesthetic. The Tragedy of Macbeth and Nightmare Alley is a good comparison since both films are very meticulously lit and both go all in for a very abstract “detached from reality” look. In that sense I agree that it does work much better in case of the BW Nightmare Alley than Macbeth, mainly because the former remarkably still gives off a strangely organic and “lived in” feeling even under all the obvious artifice.
