Not necessarily. IIRC, one of the big crossover stories (Secret Wars, maybe?) includes the heroes in Valhalla coming to the rescue, kind of like the Portals scene in Endgame. Heimdall & Jane leading an army of dead Asgardians back into battle sounds like a prime MCU moment. Maybe Tony could join them...

There's definitely an open door for Jane Foster to make a cameo appearance in some future show or movie. Doubt that Natalie wants to do another full movie since her trilogy of MCU movies is already a very satisfying arc.

Posted this in the non-spoiler thread as well, spoilers redacted here of course.

I must preface this by saying it wasn't bad, but I was pretty disappointed because I expected a lot more than what we got.

The whole thing seemed quite disjointed and didn't have the same flow as Thor: Ragnarök. The GotG seemed wasted there, they could have spent a bit more time with them. The Shadow Realm battle was too brief.

My biggest problem were the psych-outs. Think Korg is dead? Psych! Think Valkyrie is dead? Psych! Think Zeus is dead? Psych! Hate when they give characters seemingly mortal wounds and then they're for the most part fine. Cheapens the action.

Also wasn't as funny & clever in that Taika way I love so much.

It also doesn't seem to move the MCU all that much like destroying Asgard and killing Odin and redeeming Loki did in the last film. Thor now has an adopted daughter and Jane - who's been absent from the MCU for the past several years (other than that brief stock cameo in Endgame) - is now in Valhalla. Is Zeus going to send the rest of the gods of the universe after Thor in a quest for revenge? Uncertain. He certainly was humiliated so the rest of the gods may not be eager to help him now.

Just some random thoughts there.

Saw in IMAX 3D - the only showing of the day locally was at 10:30am. The 3D was decent and certain sequences opened up to 1.90 - not the entire film like DSitMoM or SM:NWH. Sound was poor so the complaints about Ragnarök sounding weak seems to have been a directorial decision rather than Disney gimping the soundtrack. Some of the dialogue was muffled and difficult to understand and didn't seem to have much surround immersion. So the 4K disc probably won't be a demo disc.

The Black&white film tone where they removed all color, was mildly interesting, but took away the joy of color. Probably symbolic of how The Butcher felt about his situation.

Those are good points I can relate to as far as similar concerns, having given it a 3/5.

I did go in with low expectations, so I wasn't expecting too much with the Guardians, but what a huge wasted opportunity that was with the comedy dynamic between competing Thor vs StarLord. The comedy kind of fell flat in this film for most of it, but a few funny moments watching Zeus tossing around that lightning bolt weapon trying to show off.

The Rock guy was funny in Thor 3, but his jokes hardly hit the mark in this one IMO regarding stating obvious things. And I watched Thor 3 the night before and thought he was funny there.

I did feel the story made sense overall, but not as critical of a situation as Thor 3 presented. Thor 3's scenery and locations were also way more epic. The pacing in Thor 4 did feel a bit off though, especially with a big dialog scene traveling to the final boss, which made the film feel a bit boring at times with those long dialog scenes.

This one was missing major dynamic characters with Loki, Jeff Goldblum (I guess he dies at the end of Thor 3 in the final end credits clip, surrounded by enemies.)

And the Butcher here, while a good job by Bale, pales in comparison to the ultra powerful evil Queen Sister by Cate Blanchett in Thor 3. No comparison really. Thankfully Butcher Gorr put up a good fight in the final fight scene, which really helped take my rating from 2.5 to 3/5, along with Thor getting help from the empowered kids.

Ragnarok dealt merely with the potential fall of Asgard. This movie deals with the potential deaths of all the gods in the MCU. I'd say it's in fact more critical...

I would have agreed if the Butcher (Bale) managed to eliminate more than that one goofball god at the beginning of the film. He had a weak track record. Heck, Thor managed to kill Zeus but the Butcher didn't even thank Thor for doing his job.

Once he got to Eternity, he was able to kill all the gods in entire universe.

Also, Thor didn't kill Zeus. He's in the mid-credit scene, healing from his wounds. So clearly killing a major god isn't really all that easy.

Thor didn’t kill Zeus. Staying for after credits scenes can give you more information in the movie.

Thor's break up with Jane Foster, the way they went into flashbacks, got sort of confusing for a moment at one point, right before they meet again to fight Gorr Butcher (spelling?) in the village at night with the shadow monsters. I wasn't sure if that happened just before or far in the past with them eventually growing tired of each other. I'd have to see it again.

He was about to, but even then, the good side of Gorr broke through thanks to Thor's influence, to say, "Hey, what about your daughter?" That was a great moment in the film IMO, and took it up a notch IMO. He revoked his wish to destroy all the gods, and wished for his daughter instead, despite dying.

My question is, why didn't Thor make his own wish? Did the movie state only one person can make a wish ever? Just wish for Jane back. Thor could've fought him if it was only 1 wish.

Thanks. I put kill Zeus in italics in my post. I stayed for the first end credits scene, where he appoints Hercules.

In the behind the scenes video that came out recently, they showed Portman with her normal size arms with dots on them, so they could add CGI arms over them. Hemsworth also had the dots on his arms - as big as he is, they gave him some CGI enhancement, as well.

Gorr is the one who was summoned by Eternity, and the one who opened the entrance... this is why only he got to make a wish.

If Thor could have, he would have

Did anyone else think Bale’s performance was weirdly close to Jim Carrey’s The Mask at times?

Not one bit, no, because that one was purely comedic

Or maybe it was Leto’s Joker. When he’s whispering in Thor’s ear I definitely felt a “hunka hunka” coming on.
