Well to be honest he played it straight but we all know he had some of the most hilarious lines in the film. That was his humor. But yeah, he was a serious actor until Airplane and the Naked Gun films.

This shouldn't be made.

Keeping in mind, the original classics will remain intact. Also, this will bring more attention to the originals, as some people who have never seen them will become more interested if interested in this film.


I just hope this reboot is an all new story and doesn't attempt to recycle any jokes from the classics with Nielsen.

But it's true, if you saw the movie Forbidden Planet, Nielsen is a major character in that film and plays a very serious role throughout. Also on an episode of Columbo.

That's the key though. To be able to keep a serious face but say really dumb things equals comedy, as Nielsen proved in the Naked Gun movies. Neeson is an expert at delivery of his lines.

He was in the movie Nuts with Streisand and and Dreyfuss. He plays the John she kills that sets up the movie. Not a huge role but he was great.

The whole point of Airplane!, Police Squad! and The Naked Gun was that they cast actors known for being serious and somber, including Nielsen. That was the joke.

I will give it a shot since we need these kinds of movies now more than ever but I just don't see how anyone could replace Leslie Nielsen. Same when it comes to the Scary Movie franchise, Anna Faris is perfect and I can't see anyone else in the role. Hope to be proven wrong, though.

How much are they going to have to "change" around as to not offend though? Someone above said comedy was dead and it sort of is. If the original came out now there’d be riots. Same for just about any comedy from that era or earlier. That’s what makes these reboots of old comedies so suspect to me.

The "filter" that the jokes and gags have to go through is so thick and restrictive that you’re left with little you can actually get away with. Right?

The original is a classic with some funny lines. I wish this new endeavor the best of luck but I can’t imagine this going well.
