kingtuna, I think American Gangster is being released Feb. 19th.
Thank you Owa.. I just saw the future Target ad, and you are correct. I guess I'll have to wait for another year till I see American Gangster on Blu..too bad.

Uni has some fantastic movies that deserve the quality and care of a blu-ray release.

You know, if Toshiba is going to surrender, they might as well do it in French!

Looking at the Sunday Ads (in my area) I ask myself is it a fire sale or good marketing.
Best Buy all HD DVD's: Buy One Get One
Circuity City over 2 dozen HD DVD's $14.99
FYE dozens of Paramount either $19.99
FYE all Universal HD DVD: Buy One Get One
On top of this Amazon has dozens of Paramount HD DVD's either $14.99 or $19.99
We have all seen sales like this before, but so many retailers having HD DVD only sales. No Blu-ray on sale at all? And all these sales, by these competing retailers all on the same weekend?
So is this a massive sale put on by HD DVD or is this retailer close out?

easy, the answer is: fire sale

considering we have not seen any aspect of good marketing so far why would you think it would even happen now?

There are HD DVD sales everywhere because it is a fire sale. Do you think that anyone wants to be caught with excess inventory? On the other hand with BD selling like hot cakes why would they have an equivalent fire sale. Most places can't even keep enough players or movies on hand.

As for the OP and the French post I was going to translate it but then decided not to bother. I think the rest got it pretty right. It is basically that Toshiba and Universal are going to hold a PR event. The rest is just the ramblings of the poster (i.e. what can it be about) and dreaming big

Well here it is translated, not the best, but you can get the point

This is foreseen for February 12: the counter-attack HD DVD on the market of the DVD and high definition! What will it happen February 12? Olive tree Van Wynendaele, Toshiba, person in charge Products general public for Europe and Johnny Fewings, International Universal Pictures, foresaw to meet the press. After the defection of Warner towards the HD DVD to the blu-ray profit, certain analysts already predict the victory of the latter. They will evoke the repositionnement of the camp HD DVD begun at first of the year 2008. I give you one before taste of what one can await of this day: Will the political marketing and aggressive tarifaire of Toshiba allow in France and at the global level to win again consumers and do to lean the balance in the other feels? Which is the strategy of begun repositionnement by HD DVD on the market of the DVD? Where is some the strategy of partnerships of the HD DVD?

I take it you've answered that one before. How about Sony? Is there any chance that Sony will go HD DVD exclusive?

So, HD-DVD PG is supposed to strike back today. (2.11 @ france).
What's they got? Netflix and BB news?

It reminds me that they said there would be an awesome good news for HD-DVD that a major studio would jump ship @ CES 2008.
