Even some HD DVD diehards are taking this as a sign to "look for a dual-format player" ...

Lol. A good photo shoot might be you in wizard's robes (ala Gandalf or Dumbledor). Might be too covered for Penton's taste, but that could be fun hehe.

I imagine there is a lot more going on behind the scenes. Maybe Universal needed an out. With all major retailers now abandoning the format, there is no way anyone can claim HD-DVD is a viable format. They have their out. Paramount...whatever. They'll probably bend over backwards to keep releasing HD-DVD. They pulled the rug out from under us. No sympathy at all.

I want to hear a comment from both those studios about their support of HD DVD now.

It must be a PR move that BB isn't outright going officially Blu exclusive and shutting the doors on HD-DVD but this is about a step or two shy of it. Semantics. In essence that's what they're doing.

Obviously what's going to happen, and has been, is HD-DVD inventory will be cleared, not restocked, and that will be the end of it.

I know any day now I'm going to see Uni and Paramount announce neutrality per their out clauses at the rate this is going. Sooner the better. Let's get it done and over with.

Yep....

I was in Best Buy this weekend, and while the selection was about equal, the HD-DVD discs were stuck behind the Blu-ray discs..If you walk into the store, you see Blu-ray...then you have to cross another aisle back from the door, and there is the HD-DVD section. Not where the most traffic is.

That Sony really gets around don't they. They've been able to buy off Dell, Panasonic, Samsung, Disney, Fox, Warner, Lionsgate, Pioneer, Philips, Sharp, Blockbuster, and now Netflix and Best Buy.
