Please keep harping. This whole 4k cover art thing is pissing me off too.

The cover is horrible. Vinegar Syndrome are nailing it where it really counts but, their covers range from exceptional to dreadful.

My kid almost bought this film because she liked the cover.

Luckily I stopped her in time and pointed her towards the BOTW review. This has got to be a case of false advertising.

Or maybe I'm wrong all around and they know something I don't. I'm sure they do their homework.
No, it is not cheaper to license the original art and get permission to use the likenesses of the actors than it is to create new art. Also, Justin had this to say about the art:

I don’t get it. Are you saying it’s on the outside of the media book, so that the slipcover could be, uh, recycled and the original poster art will be front-facing? If it’s just featured on one of the pages inside the book, that’s not remotely the same. The later edition with the reversible sleeve is the remedy for people who don’t like the slipcover art (which from the looks of things is most people).

If it were on a separate postcard, like Anchor Bay used to do back in the day, you could affix that to the front of the case for a temp solution.

Another option is to print it out yourself, to size, and fix that to the cover over this art.

Another option is to buy this now. Then buy the standard at some point when it's on sale in a couple years and sell off the mediabook.

I'll be doing one of the last two. If I can find a bag that fits these mediabooks (Manga bags fit most regular Bd and Steelbooks) I'll likely do both.

I'm not saying anything. Just sharing what Justin the owner said about it. You can reply to his comment to get more clarification because he's been pretty active and responsive over in the label threads.

Thanks. I’ve been following the Cinematographe thread since its inception and have seen all of Justin’s replies there. The wording of your reply seemed to imply that there was some information about the artwork we’d all missed.

The only thing that will be selling out is the special packaging. This isn't like Rad which they were contractually limited in the amount of copies they could sell.

Well, most companies do both, new art on the cover and original on the reverse, and it sounds like they're doing both for Little Darlings at some point so it would be cheaper to just do the original art.

I think some are misconstruing the whole art thing. I believe when you are creating a new design (that includes the likeness of actors) it needs to be signed off on. The original art is still included inside this slip box from what I have gathered in reading the various threads. It seems to be that this wasn't the original intended design, but perhaps it was too late in the game to change it. So, they made the best out of the situation they found themselves in w/out scrapping it and starting completely over. That's however all speculation on my part though.

The best compromise may have been to go w/ an all pink box just w/ the Little Darlings heart logo. But that's neither here nor there, I'm more than satisfied to just be getting the movie after all these years + the overall design of the package is geared towards collector's and that's something to also be thankful for.

If it’s so expensive to license the original poster/key art design, it’s a wonder Kino Lorber turns any kind of profit at all!

I don't think the 8000 copies of the mediabook are going to sell out any time soon.

Looks like it's sold 2000 copies in 2 days, and will be available in stores. But yeah, probably take a while to sell out the LE.

This might deliver.

It's so ugly even Blu-ray.com uses poster art for their featured link.

The cover looks like a bad Valentine's day Target display. Even if the faces weren't covered up it's still hoagly in regards to this movie. Saying you "stand by it" is a cope imo. Now it looks even worse with Instagram splotch effects hiding faces like a spurned ex-boyfriend. Custom cases for this will be huge.

If labels stopped using newly commissioned art would anybody complain? I mean, there's always SOMEBODY but by and large I doubt there would be an onslaught of demand they stop using the original poster art. But as it stands there's always so much whining, from myself included, every time new art is unveiled you'd think they wouldn't even bother anymore. Unless they're using a "there's no such thing as bad publicity" mindset. Again, highlighted and underlined, I am very excited about Little Darlings coming out, can't say that enough. I don't even hate what they were going for with their new art, I just wish their response to the legal hiccup wasn't to smear the girls' faces with excrement. I can't believe that not only did somebody stand up and say they found the solution to all their problems but then somebody said, "great work" and actually approved it. Once again, already pre-ordered. Love everything about this release but the artwork which I don't even actively hate.

I feel like too much focus is on the art, when it should all be on the movie. Why would art ever prevent someone from buying a movie they like/love... Little ❤️ Darlings.

I went ahead and bought it anyhow, but this horrible art choice is going to hurt sales to some degree.
