Paramount does not own the Italian cut and only controls distribution in most places. A firm called Euro International Films owns distribution rights in Italy and holds the OCN (which Paramount uses for constructing their restored international versions). The new 4k HDR restoration is of the 168 min cut and was carried out by Ritrovata (though Paramount handled the color grading).

Wallach and Van Cleef were on board but Eastwood was not. The restoration has been running on the Criterion Channel for some time and it is beautiful. Lets also move ahead with The Adventurers (1970), Goodbye Columbus (1969) and Chinatown.
Please give us ALFIE, THE PENTHOUSE, and BLOODLINE too, Paramount!

Yeah it’s always been right holders not agreeing or making deals with one another that have held up the Italian exclusive footage from appearing elsewhere. I’m happy it’s new work that has been done and when not doing their color tomfoolery Ritrovata can do well. Though if this is like when Kino stepped in on FAFDM we might see a few things pop up like hairs and frame wobble.

I always think with an archival dream mindset first and then remember all the practicalities. Hopefully someone will address the mono and fix the end music.
It would be cool if a featurette was included about the edits and release versions. In addition to the branching of the footage added back to the Blu-ray it would be super cool (and of course ultra nerdy) to somehow have a second branching option with and without the Harmonica rising scene.

It was supposed to signify the death of the western as a genre, if I remember correctly. I had the collector's DVD and there was a discussion about the idea, but I think Eastwood couldn't make it or something. In any case, the opening remains one of the best ever. Just began watching it on Netflix. Now that I know it's coming to 4K, I'll stop...

Eastwood was ready to go until he heard his screentime was 10 minutes tops, then he said hell no.

Can't wait for this, top 5 for me. Just sold my Blu so hopefully it's good.

As Paramount are allegedly releasing this then you can pretty much kiss the mono goodbye. Then again, even Kino would prolly stick a downmix of the 5.1 on there as the 'mono' and then tell you to **** off and don't buy it if you don't like it.

Oh shoot. I missed the bit about Paramount is doing it themselves.
Oh boy. Here we go. Indeed we will be lucky if any form of the mono is there.
This will essentially be an 4k upgrade of the BD then in terms of zero effort on their part.

They can also put to rest whether this movie is fictional or not!

What was up w/ the ending? I don't remember anything about an error w/ it.

I remember when TGTBTU was ****ed up on the BD w/ the colors from Kino some time ago. And I just never went back to Kino for the rest of the Leone films. Were any of their Leone films correct in the image?

I would love to own a Leone film again, ****...I think I have that DVD set from..a long time ago.

OUATITW though... that one would hurt my soul a bit if it was ****ed up. It's a goddamn painting come to life.

Paramount did put the mono track on the Blu-ray release, though it was lossy.

They used the wrong music cue for the restoration. There was a lengthy article in Video Watchdog about it.

If this is half as amazing as the Paramount Presents To Catch A Thief BD remaster then we are in for a real treat.
