It's not that don't want to have a cool, beautiful-looking and improved replacement on my shelf; I'm just wary of spending even more for something I already have if it'll only end up being simply an upscaled version of the blu-ray with some HDR effects thrown on.

Edit: I'm not saying I think the 4K release will for-sure have zero improvement, as Crimson Peak has enough creative use of colour and lighting that a 4K transfer of even a 2K+ source will probably reveal some nice detail that was compressed out of the blu-ray. I just don't know if it'll be enough to justify buying the film a second time.
Where do you buy your wet blankets, Debbie?

With HDR / DV, I have to imagine there will be a notable difference between the 4K and BD transfers.

Setting aside the fact HDR and wide color are the main benefits of the format, you are aware the vast majority of movies from the last 15 years are 2k DIs right? If you've enjoyed any of those on UHD you'll enjoy this.

I'm sure Crimson Tide will be available soon enough in one of Sony's Voluminous Disney Collection Box sets, more than likely comprising 5 other movies nobody wants or perhaps a limited edition steelbook. My money is on next year for it's 30th anniversary

Same regular store as any other blanket; I just then leave them to soak for a while in the North Sea haha. Don't get me wrong, I was looking forward to buying in 4K until I saw it was only released in blu-ray and found out it was digital 2k, but I'd have held out if there'd been anything to indicate it'd be tranfered to 4K. It is mildly obnoxious how many films are released to blu-ray (including boutique releases and other special editions priced even higher) only to have 4K announced much later on. But to be fair to Crimson Peak, it only came out right when UHD discs were first being made. I'm sure it'll look great—I just probably won't scoop it up unless I stumble on it secondhand.

Oh yes, I alluded to that in my comment. I've just found that some film look great in UHD and others don't seem to be much improvement over the blu-ray (but are typically priced a good deal higher), and I've noticed the bulk of the latter seem to be 2K DIs. I've been under the impression that it's most common when the original source is digital 2K (which is the case for Crimson Peak), but I could be 100% misguided on that. Like I said, I'm sure this really will look great with del Torro's lavish colours, and I don't doubt it'll be the version to buy if you haven't bought it already.

What TV do you have? I'm not trying to be snarky or arrogant or anything but I'm wondering if maybe your TV's HDR is a factor here. To me the color and HDR differences are massive.

You never know with Amazon anymore, they didn't drop the price on Leviathan, it's still $ 39.99.

Also considering how the box set is very similar to the ones from Vinegar Syndrome which can dent fairly easily. Purchasing from Orbit or Diabolik is a safer bet as they’ll be packaged better.

I can confirm this since I ordered the previous blu-ray set from Amazon and it was dented lol. Won't be making that mistake on this one now! Already pre-ordered through Diabolik.

Yeah…I think it’s the better alternative. You may end up paying a few extra bucks but at least you’re guaranteed it arrives in a box.
